The NFL community finally has some more closure into Russell Wilson’s situation with the Denver Broncos. Wilson’s benching has spread through the NFL like wildfire. There is a contention about whether this move came from the Broncos out of animosity for the QB for not modifying his contract or was it just a “football decision”. For all we know, the Denver Broncos have their arms open for the dejected QB.
The General Manager of the Denver Broncos, George Paton took the stage in an attempt to bury the Russell Wilson conversation forever. Per the GM, the QB still has a future with the organization if he chooses to. Safe to say that the Broncos have a lot of meetings ahead of them. The Broncos are out of the playoffs and have much reshuffling to do.

It started with the GM getting asked about the “threats of benching” and Paton was happy to talk about it. A couple of months ago, he reached out to Wilson’s agent to reach a favorable agreement for both parties. Unfortunately, they couldn’t solidify anything, and time went on. Come week 17, Sean Payton decided to make changes to the QB position. Per the GM, the cascade didn’t have to do anything personally, it was just a “football decision”.
The Broncos are planning to have a lot of “player meetings” in the future and Russell Wilson’s future will be decided in one of those meetings. However, Paton’s response seems reassuring and buoyant. George Parker of the Denver Post inquired to Paton about the possibility of having Russell Wilson around when spring approaches.
“I think Sean commented on that. We really have this meeting is a deep dive in the entire roster. The door remains open with Russ. I’ve had good conversations with Russ, Sean’s had good conversations. The door is open and so we’ll kind of get through the process. We’ll visit as you know the coaching staff, scouting staff. We’ll visit with Russ and his people and we’ll go from there.”
Paton addressed everything but chose to stay evasive about one particular question.
Was Russell Wilson threatened?
Throughout the conversation with Paton, from start to end, he was asked questions along the lines of Russell Wilson being threatened. It happened a couple of times till one of the reporters addressed it specifically. The question was, “Was he threatened to be benched?”.
