This season saw a spectacular comeback of QB Brock Purdy. As he led his team, the San Francisco 49ers, to clinch the NFC title by defeating the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Furthermore, on that day, he added another chapter to NFL history. But still, the criticism is on for him.
Purdy endured a three-day wait during the 2022 NFL draft, ultimately being selected last. He earned the title “Mr. Irrelevant,” a title which is given to the last selected player in the draft each year. Despite the initial designation, his recent achievements ensure his name will now be remembered in NFL history, as he led the team to the Super Bowl after 4 years. Like his other teammates, the 49ers fullback, Kyle Juszczyk, is proud of his quarterback, despite the hate going for Purdy.

In a recent episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” San Francisco FB Kyle Juszczyk made an appearance to talk about his team and quarterback Brock Purdy. The quarterback recently faced backlashes and was called “the least-talented quarterback” than the other quarterbacks in the 2023 playoffs (Patrick Mahomes, Jared Goff, and Lamar Jackson), by Colin Cowherd. Soon after this, many teammates like Nick Bosa and George Kittle came forward to support Purdy.
Juszczyk, expressed his confusion regarding the criticism directed at Purdy. He said, “I don’t understand it. I can’t figure it out man like if you watch 49ers football, if you watch it the last two years and you watch Brock Purdy play like. I don’t understand where you can even bring the hate in like this guy. He has been incredible, like he is a playmaker and this game manager tag it’s baffling.”
Juszczyk also highlighted Purdy’s humility, hard work, and dedication behind the scenes, emphasizing how seriously Purdy takes his role. He also mentioned the quarterback’s consistent focus during meetings, stressing his maturity, understanding of the significance of his role, and commitment to not letting the team down. Juszczyk acknowledged that, despite efforts to ignore criticism, it affects them as humans. He expressed gratitude for Purdy’s approach and couldn’t comprehend the negativity, attributing it, perhaps, to draft-related biases.
The 32-year-old full-back also highlighted Purdy’s excellence this season, and also his remarkable leadership and talent, due to which Niners are into the Super Bowl. Besides this, in the last game, Purdy has done something that no other quarterback has done in 30 years.

Post-game, Purdy showed his gratitude to God and the “opportunity” he received at the correct time. The quarterback stated, “I feel like I’ve always had to fight for what I get and work for what I get. But God’s always given me an opportunity….I put my faith and trust in him, and he’s gotten me where I’m at.”
