During the latest episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” McAfee, along with his co-hosts, discussed the achievements of Mayo and Kraft’s decision to make him the head coach of the team. As the discussion continued, McAfee applauded Kraft’s quick decision. He said, “I like the way Kraft handled this quickly. We don’t need to be a team without a leader for a while. You know, we don’t need anybody in the building—strength staff, trainers, equipment managers—we don’t need them wondering what’s next, so them signing the succession plan last off-season and Bill being part of it.” He emphasized that this decision of theirs is appreciable.
Mayo will be the Patriots’ 15th head coach. He was a professional linebacker for the New England Patriots. Analyst Ian Rapoport mentioned that in the last season of Jerod Mayo’s contract, he was designated to be Bill Belichick’s successor. He emphasized that there was speculation about Mike Vrabel replacing Bill Belichick, but that’s not the case. Mayo’s impressive performance probably amazed Kraft enough to choose him as Belichick’s successor.
