Is Tua Tagovailoa's return a brave decision or a reckless gamble with his health?

It’s been four weeks since Tua Tagovailoa played his last game for the Dolphins this season. Having suffered a concussion against the Bills in week 2, the Dolphins decided to put him in injury reserves. This was a decision taken by the organization in order to avoid rushing him back into the field.

With shouts of retiring echoing around his NFL career, Tagovailoa finally breaks silence on the concerns, “How much risk do we take when we get up in the morning and drive to work? You can get in a car accident. There is risk in any & everything. I’m willing to play odds.” Well, the Dolphins could be the happiest franchise in the NFL right now, as they desperately need his services. Without him starting at the center, the Dolphins lost three out of their four games.

They are just behind the Buffalo Bills, who are currently leading the AFC East with a 5-2 record after seven weeks. However, the Dolphins’ head coach, Mike McDaniel, continues to take a measured approach to his return, “Our plan is to start him practicing on Wednesday, and the clearing doesn’t come until after some of the activity. But we’re obviously doing so in the hope of everything going well so he can play Sunday, but that will be determined.”

Tua still has to pass the concussion protocols in order to make himself available before the Cardinals clash on Sunday. His absence from the center led to three QBs getting time on the field. First, it was Skylar Thomson who replaced him in week 2 against the Bills. Then he injured his ribs, which led to Tyler Huntley getting the opportunity. Having started the last three games for the Phins, he also suffered an injury to his right shoulder.

Leaving the game against the Colts on Sunday after recording 87 yards and 1 TD, Tim Boyle took his place in Indianapolis. However, the Dolphins have looked like a mediocre team without their starting QB this season. With an average of 11.67 points per game, the Dolphins must find their rhythm back soon. Or else they could kiss their season goodbye in the coming weeks. Amid Tua’s imminent return from a third concussion, let’s take a look at the scary reactions to his head injury against the Bills.

Ex-NFL stars urge Tua Tagovailoa to retire after his third concussion in two years

Is Tua Tagovailoa's return a brave decision or a reckless gamble with his health?

Have an interesting take?

Colliding head-first into the Bills defensive tackle Damar Hamlin, Tua stumbled and fell to the ground in week 2. This led former NFL QB Robert Griffin III to pray for his quick recovery, “Really just praying for Tua’s long-term health. Another concussion puts him at 3 officially and countless other scares. Think of the person, not just the player.” Even though it looked like a serious injury at that time, Tua was allowed to go back to the field after a few minutes.

On the back of that controversial decision, the NFLPA decided to fire a neurotrauma consultant who cleared him back to the field. Well, former players didn’t only speak about Tua’s quick recovery, they also bashed the NFL for their lack of awareness. Former Cowboys WR Dez Bryant added, “That’s it. NFL go ahead and do the right thing. Tua has had entirely way too many concussions. He needs to retire for his longevity health concern.”

Although there are still concerns about Tua getting concussed again as he returns to full recovery, the Dolphins QB expressed, “I appreciate your concern. I really do. I love this game and I love it to the death of me.” As the 26-year-old expresses his determination to continue playing after repeated concussions. We do hope he doesn’t get another for the rest of his NFL career. And instead helps his team secure a playoff berth after their continued struggles without him leading the line.
