Is Mike McDaniel right to shake up the Dolphins' roster, or is he overreacting to Tyreek Hill's struggles?

Week 4 closed with a huge loss to the Miami Dolphins on Monday night football. The Tennessee Titans beat the Phins 31-12 at Hard Rock Stadium. Many players, including Tyreek Hill, who was considered the game-changer for the franchise fell short on September 30, as the Cheetah was “held under 50 yards receiving for the third straight game with 23 yards on four catches.”

Hence, due to frustration, Hill was seen shouting at someone on the sidelines on national television. ESPN cameras captured this heated moment that happened when just over five minutes were remaining in the fourth quarter. However, coach Mike McDaniel was also seen in the same video frame, ignoring Hill’s outbursts and focusing on the game. Talking about the ongoing struggles with Tyreek Hill and other players, coach Mike McDaniel appeared in a presser post-game, to say, via reporter David Furones, that “he would expect Tyreek Hill to be upset on the sideline as a leader on this team after the way the offense performed.”

The team just recorded “184 total yards and were held under 100 deep into the second half.” This prompted the media to ask coach McDaniel about his thoughts on the roster. To which, while attending the post-game presser, the 41-year-old, mentioned, “all things are on the table” regarding the changes that need to be made to the offense. The coach further added, “But you can’t argue that the offense is good or….(fumbling with his statements). To me, in a situation like this, I haven’t really been one where we have had production consecutively like this, so you’ve got to open your mind to all things.

This obviously isn’t the usual situation for McDaniel, as he is used to seeing consistent production. But after the team’s third loss in the 2024 regular season, he knows that adjustments are necessary to get the team back on track. His openness to change shows he’s willing to explore new strategies to boost the offense and turn things around.

Hence, it remains to be seen what Mike McDaniel brings in the offense side in the upcoming days, after his 24th-minute rule.

Mike McDaniel is eager to fix the team’s problem!

Earlier in the offseason, the head coach focused on number 24, as he believed that this 24 would help them reach the playoffs. However, this isn’t about the 2024 season. It’s about McDaniel’s 24-minute rule, which involved the strategy of starting every meeting at the 24th minute of the hour. But why this 24-minute rule? Well, it could be the tenure representing the 24 years of Miami’s playoff drought.

However, as the season started, it didn’t seem the Phins were actually ready to make it through the playoffs, at least as per their recent performances. And coach Mike McDaniel knows this very well, as he admitted, “Ultimately, there’s nothing good about this situation right now in terms of where our team needs to be. We need to do enough to win a football game against any opponent, and right now, that’s not the case. We have to fix that fast.”

The Dolphins’ spectacular win against the Broncos with 70 points tells that the team has improved from their last season. But this recent loss to Titans once again, after being defeated by them in 2023, clearly tells that the franchise is still struggling to find the end zone. With Tua Tagovailoa out until Week 8, there’s a cloud of uncertainty hanging over the team. Will Mike McDaniel turn the table around?
