Chiefs failed to achieve the three-peat. It was a heartbreak for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. The Eagles, led by Saquon Barkley and their MVP QB Jalen Hurts, just rolled over. The Caesars Superdome turned into a battlefield, where the NFL’s best went head-to-head. But one statement regarding Mahomes’s health issue hogged some attention before the game.
Just hours before the Super Bowl, there was a chatter about the Chiefs QB. And it all started with his personal trainer, Bobby Stroupe. In an interview with The Washington Post, Stroupe once mentioned, “Patrick is the most prolific sleeper in professional sports. He gets ten hours of sleep a night and naps all day.” And with Mahomes, nothing goes unnoticed. Now, people are reading into it.
Suddenly, Bobby’s comment had people overanalyzing it like a plot twist in a mystery novel. And, of course, the internet split into two camps. One side started playing doctor, tossing around theories about Mahomes and diabetes because sleeping a lot is a symptom. The other side kept it simple: the guy’s a pro athlete who trains like crazy, so yeah, he needs his rest. That’s just part of the job.

Although, there’s no word from Mahomes himself, and until there is, this is just a rumor. The guy trains hard every day, he has to. He’s one of the best QBs in the game, leading one of the top teams in the league. In the Super Bowl game, Mahomes had 3 touchdowns for 257 yards and completed 21 out of 32 passes. He looked fine in terms of health. But, this isn’t the first time rumors about Mahomes and diabetes have popped up.
Does Patrick Mahomes have any other health concerns?
It started back in 2022, and somehow, it always comes back when he’s in a big game. But here’s the deal, Mahomes is fine. The only health issue Mahomes had this season was that ankle injury against the Browns in December.

In fact, here is a quick list of some of his most recent injuries:
Date | Injury | Details |
Dec 15, 2024 | Pedal Ankle Sprain/Pull | Patrick Mahomes suffered an ankle injury in the fourth quarter of Week 15’s game against the Browns. |
Feb 12, 2023 | Pedal Ankle (high) Sprain | The QB aggravated his right ankle injury in the Super Bowl. |
Jan 21, 2023 | Pedal Ankle (high) Sprain | Though Mahomes left the game, he returned after halftime with his right ankle heavily taped. |
Dec 4, 2022 | Pedal Foot Bruise | Injury took place in the fourth quarter. |
Jan 17, 2021 | Head Cranial Concussion | Mahomes experiences a concussion in the 3rd quarter of the Divisional Round win over the Browns. |
But in classic Mahomes fashion, he was back a week later like nothing happened. Other than that, he’s been a tank—no major injuries, no setbacks or health issues. Patrick Mahomes has led the way in every game this season. The 29-year-old sat out the last regular-season game against the Broncos. But that was just the team playing it smart, giving him a breather before the postseason.

At Friday’s Super Bowl press conference, the Chiefs QB made it clear, his squad is ready. “I think guys are ready to go. Obviously, there’s a lot of buildup to the Super Bowl, and a lot of the guys have done it before, but you continue to focus on the details, you continue to work hard, and all this buildup makes you ready to go on Super Bowl Sunday.”
Well, Mahomes lost the Super Bowl LIX, but this is just part of the game. He is still adorned with three SB rings and definitely have a bright future ahead.
