Home/NFL

Mark your calendars for this Sunday because it’s the clash of the bitter rivals of the NFL. Sure, most fans are eyeing Lamar Jackson’s gameplay given his poor postseason record. But let’s not forget about the clash between John Harbaugh and Mike Tomlin. What’s interesting about that, you’re wondering? Harbaugh is in his 17th season as the Ravens‘ head coach, while Tomlin is playing his 18th season as the Steelers HC. But guess what? The rumors are that it can be Tomlin’s last season as the HC.

Mike Florio recently appeared on the 93.7 The Fan where he talked about Tomlin’s future with the Steelers. “You know, I really hadn’t thought of it until I heard what you guys were saying,” Florio said when asked if this could be Tomlin’s final game with the Steelers. “I’ve been curious about the Ravens and John Harbaugh just because he’s been there for so long. And if they should lose on Saturday night and they go one and done.”

No wonder Tomlin has been associated for so long with the Steelers. But his 182-107 record with the Steelers says that he’s not parting ways with the team anytime soon. Take last year, for instance, when it was reported that Tomlin will make his decision to return as the head coach after the season ends. But here we are. Just after the season ended, he decided to return for another season.

Looking at this season, there are no such talks for his head coaching tenure with the team. And let’s not forget that the Super Bowl champion coach had signed a 3-year contract last year. So, it’s pretty unlikely that he’s gonna play his last game as the HC.

Cherry on the top? The wild card round is against the Ravens and Tomlin surely wants to move ahead in the season after beating John Harbaugh and Co.

Amidst Mike Tomlin’s mutual separation, Pickens may leave the Steelers

George Pickens is showing every emotion on the field this season, right? I mean, he started the season as the number 1 wide receiver and threat to the opposition. Enter a hamstring injury and the 23-year-old wideout is yet to bounce back to his best form. Take the last game of the regular season, for instance, which can be said his worst game of the season.

When the Steelers met the Bengals in week 18, Pickens dropped three passes and had one reception for zero yards. That seems enough to make him frustrated, right? And he showed his frustration while arguing with the fans on the sideline. But if we look at the bright side, the Steelers secured a postseason berth and Pickens got a chance to play for his future in the team. That said, Mike Florio believes that Pickens and the Steelers may mutually part ways after the postseason following his frustrating season.

And when asked if Pickens will be playing for his future against the Ravens on Sunday, he stated, “Well, that assumes he wants one. I feel like we’re moving toward mutual divorce territory with the two (sides) and his body language, his demeanor, the fact that Mike Tomlin’s done such a great job of keeping guys who might be problems under control until either the very end of a long career of after they’re gone. And we’ve seen so much acting out from George Pickens, and Tomlin, at times, seems exasperated and says he’s gotta grow up.”

With this frustrating season, Pickens will enter in final year of his rookie contract and it seems unlikely that the Steelers will go for a contract extension for him. As per the Pro Football Focus, Pickens is listed as a potential trade candidate in this coming off-season.
