There are 2 sides of a coin. Ever since the reports came out that Aaron Rodgers wanted to play at the Jets till the 2025 season, there have been celebrations and criticisms. While his fans are happy, some analysts aren’t ready and have made some interesting takes on this.

While talking with Damonza Byrd about Aaron Rodgers’s decision on his show What’s Wright With Nick Wright, he said, “Him retiring has nothing to do with the fact they’ve got to cut him. He’s a bad aging injured distracted player who has sucked all the life out of that building.” He requested the team to think logically instead of getting emotional and also gave a way out.

According to Wright, Aaron Rodgers has a $23 million cap hit next year and $50 million if he doesn’t play. He would have a $21 million hit in 2026 when he wouldn’t play. If they remove him post-June 1, it would be $14 million in 2025 and $35 million in 2026. So, he advised the team to cut him post-June 1 and save as much as they could. And go for the new younger quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The analyst pointed out that the veteran QB would not change their fortunes. In 2024, he has a 3-7 win-loss record in 10 games. With 219 of 351 passes (62% completion rate) in 2,258 passing yards with 15 touchdowns and 7 interceptions, his performance is also under question. It would be their 14th season without playoff qualification. That hurts.

While the Jets struggled with their combination, the Chiefs sneaked into their locker room.

Amid Rodgers’s discussion, Chiefs acquire the kicker

This year, there has been one key strategy for the Patrick Mahomes franchise. Finding the backups. They have been pretty good at it. When Rashee Rice got injured early in the season, they got Juju Smith-Schuster. Something similar happened on November 14 as well. Kicker Harrison Butker got injured and was placed on the Injured Reserve (IR), pushing her out for at least 4 weeks.

While there were no clear updates about Butker’s left knee injury, the Chiefs acquired the rookie kicker Spencer Shrader from Aaron Rodgers‘s team. The Jet even offered him a place in the 53-man roster, but the rookie kicker wanted to play for the Chiefs. That’s understandable. Who wouldn’t want to play for the back-to-back Super Bowl winners going undefeated? No one.

There has been no comparison between both teams. While the Jets failed miserably, the Chiefs have emerged as the undefeated team. If this season doesn’t go well for the Jets, A-Rod’s days in the NFL could be numbered. The next year is a long shot. Only a miracle could take them to the postseason. Will they? We’ll find out soon.
