Nick Bosa has always been backing Brock Purdy and proving the naysayers otherwise. Purdy is a guy who got tagged “Mr. Irrelevant,” and “game manager,” proved once again why he’s the king of the hill. Supporting the QB, the 49ers’ DE told the media, “I don’t pay attention to the media much, but whoever is talking s**t about Brock Purdy, what do you have now?” That was after the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Detroit Lions 34-31 in the NFC Championship game. But Purdy didn’t stop there. He took the team to Super Bowl and earned his flowers.

But coming to the present, the team is already hard at work in the first day of the OTAs and what Nick Bosa thought of Brock Purdy still hasn’t changed. Rather it’s amplified. Despite all this praise coming his way, Purdy stays modest and gives the due credit to his team. Such habits don’t slip by the 49ers DE and he thinks that Purdy will “stay the same” and be “humble.” The 4x Pro Bowler even compared Purdy to worlds No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler, except of course without any controversies that come with the golfer.

Cam Inman, a 49ers reporter was there at the first day of training and had a chance to observe. He spoke with Bosa, who started his first day with a contagious energy. The conversation shifted to Brock Purdy and the DE showed his respect to Purdy for his attitude, faith and his humility. Inman reported Bosa saying, “I don’t think he’s ever going to change, even when he gets paid next year. He’s a man of faith. He kind of reminds me of Scottie Scheffler, except he didn’t get arrested. He’s just super humble and a really good kid. Yeah, he’s definitely famous”

Bosa compared Purdy to Scheffler, world’s best golfer and known for his nice guy antics. Unfortunately the golfer recently had a run in with the law. Of course Purdy is in no such problem. Rather the QB is raking in sponsorships from the likes of John Deere in this off season. However, this is Brock Purdy’s last year adhering to his rookie contract and he’s set to make about $985k in base salary. Suffice it to say that Purdy is due for a huge payout, especially after the last season.

But respect runs both ways and the QB didn’t shy away from expressing just how inspired he was seeing Bosa back on the field.

Nick Bosa inspires Brock Purdy to ‘take it seriously’

Bosa volunteered to show up for the OTAs and reportedly, he doesn’t do so usually. But the DE getting back to work sparked something inside Purdy. Its the drive to take things even more seriously. “You can tell it means something to him,” Purdy said. “It’s pretty special. So for all of us to see that, it’s, ‘Alright, Bosa’s taking it seriously. We all should.’” Seeing Bosa back in the facility this early was partly due to the loss against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. He mentioned in the interviwe how “annoying” it is when people bring up that loss.

Bosa has been instrumental in 49ers success, he carried the 49ers to a Super Bowl on more than one occasion, and leads the 49ers defensive unit with poise and authority. Another inspiring story that came out of the OTA was Nick Bosa doing overtime and working out till late. Kyle Shanahan loves that mentality and even had a few things to say himself. “I love Nick being around, getting a chance to do football with the guys,” Shanahan said. But despite Bosa admitting that he’s not “young” anymore, the DE is giving it his all and doing his best to not give into that Super Bowl loss.

Having a presence like Bosa gives confidence to Brock Purdy and the DE reported earlier that the QB is getting more “vocal” with the team as the time goes by. But the OTA’s are not all about practicing. It’s also giving players a chance to hang out after 3 months of Super Bowl game. On field relationships are as important as off the field chemistry, which the 49ers have plenty off. These players serving as each other’s roll models just deepens that bond.
