Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys released Ezekiel Elliott’s contract prematurely because of production issues, the large salary cap he carried, and the growth of other players on the team. Now, the Cowboys seem to be living in déjà vu as similar problems are reportedly surfacing with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb’s contracts.

Though the Cowboys had time, they didn’t provide Dak Prescott an extension, and they cannot franchise tag him next year as he would turn to free agency. Similarly, CeeDee Lamb is also demanding a long-term deal following a phenomenal 2023 season but hasn’t gotten one as of yet. So, he didn’t show up to the voluntary training camp. While some think that Jerry Jones isn’t taking the initiative to deal with the situation, the truth couldn’t be any further.

The reporter tried to press Jerry Jones and asked why Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb’s deals were not done yet. They wanted to know the reason why the Cowboys didn’t focus on signing these players ahead of time and maintained veterans on the roster. The Cowboys owner made a strong statement in a reply to the reporter.

“Who in the world would think that we’re not working on it? I work on it, it pops up at two in the morning sometimes,” said Jones and explained, “We’d like to see some more action. It’s called option. A lot of guys need to hand it off first guy through the line, another one will keep it another step, decide whether to pitch it or not. He’ll decide whether to turn upfield with it then he still got a pitch left. So, it’s called option quarterback.”

In other words, Jones hinted that he’s searching the market and if a better option pops up, he’ll take it. “I want to see a few more cards played, candid. If you got trouble with what the timing is around here, it’s because I’m not ready to go.” Earlier, Jones subtly hinted at what his “all in” approach meant, and it might clarify some things for the Cowboys fans.

To a lot of people, it seemed like the Dallas Cowboys haven’t made a lot of deals or off-season moves. Despite all the commotion on the surface, Jones thinks that the Cowboys are doing just fine, in fact, he feels confident in the team’s approach to deal with off-season contracts and trades.

“We feel great about what we’ve been in free agency. All in, all in, uh all in. We’re all in with these young guys coming on uh and we’re all in with this draft and uh we’re all in with knowing that you have to go.” Jones said, indicating that some players have to be sacrificed to make room for younger talent.

“I saw some criticism someplace about Zeke, about paying Zeke,” said Jones and added, “Do I need a raise of hands in this room of everybody that thought Zeke should be on this football team when we had him when he was holding out? Uh but uh we had to adjust the contract which took away from money that could have gone to Tyron.”

Ezekiel Elliott, who had a 6-year $90 million extension deal with the Cowboys, didn’t get to complete his tenure and left the team. The draft is just a few days away and we hope to see a revamped Cowboys. However, people cannot imagine the team without Dak Prescott leading it. What do you think about the Cowboys’ conundrum?
