Caleb Williams is the talk of the town this offseason! The No.1 pick of the draft has all eyes set on him as he preps for his debut in the NFL with the Chicago Bears. Now, with the franchise set to be on HBO’s Hard Knocks, the quarterback’s practice sessions would be on display for all.

Williams attended the Bears minicamp on Tuesday and wowed fans and analysts alike with his throws. Whereas some, including Travis Kelce, compared his moves to Patrick Mahomes, others didn’t agree with the hype.

Caleb Williams is making Mahomesian throws,” declared Nick Wright on the First Things First podcast. However, he was met with counter-opinions immediately calling the QB’s throw just a jump pass” and not a “deep throw.” Chris Broussard compared it to Mahomes’ 20-yard throw made on one leg.

That’s the thing, so when I first saw the Caleb highlight or in the headline, I was thinking, oh, it’s going to be 20 yards downfield,” said the analyst. “-It looked like it was in the flats. I mean, from the angle I saw, yeah, so it wasn’t quite as impressive.” They also pointed out the Chiefs star’s signature no-look passes as to why he is way superior to the young rookie.

While Broussard might not be sold on Williams’ similarities with ‘Magic’ Mahomes, there is one Chiefs teammate who feels the two’s college records show a significant resemblance.

Travis Kelce feels Williams has the “game-changer mentality

The Chiefs tight end had only good things to say about the rookie on his ‘New Heights’ podcast. “It was a lot of feel, a lot of just trust throwing that thing downfield and letting his guys go make plays,” Kelce said when comparing Williams’ college highlight to his Texas Tech teammate. “He [Caleb Williams] has that game-changer mentality where at any moment he can kill you with his arm, and he can do some things with his legs and run the ball–a lot of QBs can’t, that throw it that well.

Kelce even went on to predict the impact the rookie might have on the franchise this upcoming season. “I thought he was an absolute stud,” he said. “I think Caleb goes in there and makes them a better football team, I really do.” Mahomes and Williams have the same number of passing touchdowns in their college career, 93, while the rookie leads in rushing touchdowns with 27 vs Mahomes’ 22. The LSU product also leads in interceptions, having 14 against 29 of the Chief’s QBs. However, the NFL is a different ballgame than college, and the LSU product would have to start from scratch as he enters the national league.

While Caleb Williams has the league’s eyes set on him, the 22-year-old has shown incredible maturity and leadership for a rookie. If the quarterback continues this attitude when the season starts, the Bears might have a realistic chance of bettering their precious year’s 7-10 record.
