Tyreek Hill is a flashy speedster but if there’s one race that he’s left behind in, it is the contract race. When the Cheetah got traded from Patrick Mahomes’ KC, he arguably became one of the highest-paid WRs in the league, but at the cost of ditching a Super Bowl-winning team. He’s entered renegotiations once again now with his present team and only has one request from his agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Hill did a presser recently and erased any shed of doubt that people had against him. He’s hell-bent on proving that he’s a Miami loyalist and doesn’t want to change that any time soon. Playing in Miami is a dream come true for the players as he seems to have all the preferred boxes ticked here.

“I let Drew and the team handle that situation. The only thing I told Drew was like: ‘Do not get me traded, the last time you did this you got me traded,’” admitted Tyreek Hill to the media. “That’s been my only thing to him,” continued Hill. “I want to stay here in Miami, man. Obviously, this is where family is now. Everybody loves it here—family loves it, wife loves it, kids love it. So, obviously I love it. I love playing for coach and my teammates are awesome. So, I wouldn’t want to leave, man.”

Hill’s $120 million contract runs through the 2026 season and will pay him $19.7 million in base salary this upcoming season. However, with other receivers comparatively having far better contracts than Hill, the star of Miami surely would want to join the league of the highest-paid players.

In the midst of this, the Miami Dolphins might be dealing with some problems of their own because Hill is not the only one in line for an extension. Enter Tua Tagovailoa who put up league-leading stats last year. Now, he’s also seeking a new contract with the Miami team. Just like every other team, the Miami Dolphins are a bit reluctant to give him Joe Burrow-like money.

To add to the woes, the Dolphins gave Jaylen Waddle a 3-year $84.75 million deal and now they must think twice before spending a single penny. Now, for Hill’s situation to be in favor of his team as well, the Miami side might opt to adjust his contract with a signing bonus and roster bonus to make some cap in the team.

Even though it is not as grave, the current situation of the WR is a stark reminder of how things went down for Hill at the Kansas City Chiefs.

Why did the Kansas City Chiefs pass on Tyreek Hill?

Recalling Hill’s contract situation, it seems clear that the matter might have turned out to be a distraction for the Kansas City Chiefs. The current scenario of Brandon Aiyuk is almost an exact example of the same. The Chiefs were not ready to deal with the drama, especially after the Super Bowl loss to Brady’s Buccaneers. That season, Mahomes received a 10-year $450 million extension and Hill wanted his extended share of money too.

Despite winning the Super Bowl with a sensational quarterback, Hill wanted a contract more than anything. Initially, the Chiefs were entertaining him. Mahomes, Reid, and the others assured Hill that the KC team would take care of him. As times changed, Hill found himself on the trading block with offers from Vegas, the Jets, and the Dolphins and decided to bid adieu to KC. Later on, the Dolphins offered him a 4-year $120 million contract.

Hill listened to his family and chose to go to Miami because he wouldn’t have had to pay income tax in Florida. In a recent presser, the WR advocated that he loves the coach and the Dolphins as a whole. He led the league last year with yards and touchdowns. It’s noteworthy that his performance boost came when he moved from Kansas City to Miami. That’s because Tua’s chemistry with Hill is unmatched. Maybe that’s why he’s doubling down to stay in Miami and requesting his agent to keep him there.
