Remember, in 2022, Colin Cowherd claimed Patrick Mahomes was not as good as everyone believed. He also emphasized that “Thank God he’s got Andy Reid there.” But now, the tables have turned, and Mahomes has proved his critics wrong. Probably, that’s why, the analyst has modified his verdict.
In the latest episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd on July 10, 2024, the host shared his ranking of the top quarterback-coach combinations in the NFL. He said, “The first one’s an easy one that’s Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes. Highest win percentage by any quarterback-coach combo in the Super Bowl era. That’s an easy one, he’s the great play designer, a clever play caller, and Mahomes right now is the most gifted quarterback, potentially ever.” However, Cowherd did make a condition to his first rank, while discussing the other quarterback-coach duos.
He ranked Sean McDermott and Josh Allen as the fifth-best quarterback-coach combination in the NFL. In addition to that, the analyst emphasized that Allen is physically superior to Mahomes, noting his exceptional size, speed, and arm strength. He further highlighted the Buffalo Bills QB’s unique abilities, suggesting that there’s no quarterback like him in the world, including Mahomes.

Despite occasional concerns about defensive coaches facing off against offensive coaches in playoffs, Cowherd acknowledged the Bills’ consistent success with four consecutive division titles, underlying their status as a strong football franchise. However, no matter what happens, this debate of choosing between Bills and Chiefs, as well as between Allen and Mahomes, will likely continue throughout their faceoff.

The matchup between the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs is considered to be the NFL’s premier rivalry. Historically, they have squared off seven times since 2020, with the Chiefs winning 4 games and the Bills 3. Last season too, both the teams met each other once again. And that time it was the AFC divisional round playoffs, where the Chiefs were successful in hoisting their Red Flag at Buffalo’s Highmark Stadium.
This defeat also marked Josh Allen’s loss to Patrick Mahomes three times in the playoffs. Fast forward to the present, the Bills and the Chiefs are again going to meet in 2024. This will mark the fifth consecutive regular-season matchup between Buffalo and KC. When we look at the history, Buffalo has won three out of four regular-season games, against the Chiefs, including victories in the last three years.
So, why are they facing off against each other again and again? This recurring rivalry between the two is due to the NFL’s scheduling system, where teams play against other teams that finished in the same place in their respective divisions the previous season. Kansas City has dominated the AFC West, winning it eight times in a row since 2016. While Buffalo has secured the AFC East title for four consecutive years.

Additionally, teams play four games against teams from a division within their conference on a rotating basis every three years. Hence, this time they both are facing off against each other in Week 11 on November 17 at 3:25pm, according to chiefs.com.
