Patrick Mahomes skips ESPYs—Is he too busy or just too cool for award shows?

Wow! What a proud moment for the entire Kansas City Chiefs nation – the Arrowhead, Missouri, fans, franchise, Mahomes’ family, and coach Andy Reid. After winning the ESPYS “Best NFL Player” Award, Patrick Mahomes once again won another title.

As the Thursday night’s event was big and honorable, Mahomes’ family, including Randi Mahomes and Mia Randall, were present at the occasion to witness their proud son winning the award. But despite his double win, Mahomes wasn’t present at the grand function. So, there came the Chiefs’ prized possession, Andy Reid!

About two days ago, it was revealed that Patrick Mahomes has won the ESPYS “Best NFL Player” Award. Now at the event that was held on July 11, it was announced that he also is the winner of “Best Male Athlete” Award. However, as the quarterback was not present at the occasion, his proud coach Andy Reid stepped in to fill the quarterback’s void on the stage. Chiefs WR Rashee Rice shared an Instagram story about the same. In the story, Reid is seen accepting the award on behalf of Mahomes on Thursday at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

In addition to that, the 66-year-old also gave a stage speech on behalf of the quarterback, saying that he “appreciates” all the fans and members involved in KC’s success. Reid expressed, “I’ve been around this kid for a few years now, to watch him grow as a football player, as a teammate, as a leader has been phenomenal. But more than that, to watch him grow as a father and as a husband has probably been the best part of that. We’re very lucky to have him in Kansas City.” Rice shared the story tagging Mahomes, along with a caption “Ft. BIG RED!!

Meanwhile, Mahomes, too, acknowledged the ESPYS for his double win, as well as thanked coach Reid for his prize acceptance speech on behalf of him.

Patrick Mahomes shared his first thought after winning two awards!

Although it was not disclosed why Patrick Mahomes wasn’t able to attend the ESPYS despite his return from his four-week long Europe trip, he did show his presence and acceptance via social media. After winning the “Best NFL Player” Award, he tweeted on his official X account, saying, “Grateful. Thank you @ESPYS.

Later after winning “Best Athlete in Men’s Sports,” Mahomes expressed on X: “Incredible athletes across the board in this category. Blessed and honored to bring home this award again. thanks to the fans and @ESPYS 🙏Big dawg Andy crushed too.” Besides these, the Chiefs were in the running for the Team of the Year Award. However, that went to the University of South Carolina women’s basketball team, which won the NCAA championship with an impressive 38-0 record.

Nonetheless, for now, Mahomes can bask in his three wins of this year: Super Bowl LVIII, Best NFL Player, and Best Male Athlete awards.
