Jody Fortson started his career as an undrafted player out of Valdosta State. Despite a season lost to a shoulder injury, Fortson is poised for a fresh chapter with the Dolphins. The squad is in dire need of invigorating their tight end department. His tenure under the Kansas City Chiefs saw him take home two Super Bowl championships for two straight years. But more than that, he cherishes the fact that he got to do it under Travis Kelce.

He has just 14 career receptions. On the other hand, Kelce recorded 11 receptions in just the AFC Title Game. But if you asked him, all he is today is because of Travis Kelce. And as he starts his Dolphins journey, he can’t help but recall how the star TE transformed him.

Fortson is a part of the Dolphins’ squad now. He was signed by Miami for a two-year deal worth up to $10 million. But he can’t stop praising Travis Kelce. For him, Kelce isn’t just a teammate; he’s the gold standard. So much so, that he said this about him – “Travis Kelce is my favourite teammate of all time, on any level.”

But it’s not just Kelce’s prowess on the field that has left a mark on Fortson. It’s the generosity of spirit, the willingness to mentor a rookie. “He just showed unconditional love and just knowledge for the game. Being able to learn and see how he’s attacking different routes.”

However, it’s not just TE Kelce that he wants to give props to, as the young player has learned a lot from other KC members as well. And he will be joining one of them soon at the Phins’ camp.

Fortson shares the impact Tyreek and Reid had on him

On Friday, Fortson said of his squad, “I just think it brings a winner’s attitude, a winner’s mindset.” That is what he learned from his time there. Despite only catching 14 passes, Fortson made them count. He scored four touchdowns and earned a niche fan base among Chiefs enthusiasts who felt his potential was underutilized. However, he felt he got to learn all that he could. He primarily mentioned HC Reid, and former KC member Tyreek Hill.

Fortson chuckled as he recounted, “You know, Tyreek is a goofball all the time. But that’s also another intelligent player.” Echoing Tyreek’s transition, Fortson is now charting a similar course from KC to Miami. The “Cheetah,” had offered him some sage advice, “He was like, ‘You’re coming into a situation where you get to be you. Let your personality ooze out. Just let that happen and everything would be fine’.” He even exclaimed, “Every time you get to be on the field with Tyreek is a blessing.” Now Jody’ll be reunited with Hill soon!

Speaking of Coach Reid, Fortson expressed admiration. He said that everything about him is “impressive”. The former Chiefs’ player added, “That’s a guy that I could literally remember him telling the story about him taking plays from people just around the building, a janitor.”
