Is Jalen Hurts truly in Mahomes' league, or are Eagles fans just dreaming big?

“You can’t have a cake and eat it too”. Jalen Hurts, after an iffy start to the season, is coming back to his best. Naturally, wee see any QB raising his game in the NFL, and they get compared to Patrick Mahomes. Although the Chiefs QB hasn’t had the best of the regular season so far, there is no doubt about his status as the most valuable player. On Hurts’ part, the comparison isn’t new, as the two faced each other in Super Bowl LVII, and an injured Mahomes came on top (38-35). Since then, the Chiefs went back-to-back, and the Eagles forgot how to fly. But that Super Bowl loss is back. This time, in the words of John Kincade, sports radio personality for ‘97.5 The Fanatic,’ who has no time for Eagles QB’s comparison with Mahomes.

“I don’t want to listen to the blind loyalists, who cannot hear any criticism or accept any criticism, who thinks [Jalen Hurts] is Patrick Mahomes, when he’s not – and I also don’t want to hear from the person who trashes Jalen at every turn.” This is what Kincade said about the comparison between the Eagles’ QB and Super Bowl winner QB of the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes. As the Eagles’ fans went wild with his performance, John Kincade cleared the air by citing a more practical explanation. Do you know what he further said?

The 59-year-old radio personality further opined, “I saw him tied at the two-minute warning of a Super Bowl, where he played toe-to-toe with Patrick Mahomes, but his own mistakes ended up costing the Eagles a Super Bowl because it was the difference. But I trust that Jalen can be that guy, and I told you all off-season. That’s where I’m at, but I don’t think I fall into the blind loyalist category.”

The Eagles’ fans would not agree with the above opinion. Some fans are satisfied with Jalen’s efforts for the Super Bowl against the Chiefs, even in the current season, where he has a completion percentage of 69.8%. In contrast to Kincade’s analysis, social media is buzzing with the staggering performance by the Eagles’ jersey No. 1, this season.

Jalen Hurts’ performance: better in Superbowl LVII or now?

After Super Bowl LVII loss, the 6-foot-1 QB confessed his feelings like, “I’m proud of the way we fought. But ultimately we came up short. I have got to be better”. But let’s not ignore that he became the first QB in NFL history to complete 70% of his passes. He became the first player in NFL history to throw 300 yards and run for 70 yards along that exceptional completion percentage. Though the Eagles lost, leading the NFC East with a record of 7-2, Hurts’ team must be eyeing the same this season.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Jalen Hurts truly in Mahomes' league, or are Eagles fans just dreaming big?

Have an interesting take?

In the current season, Jalen Hurts stands out. His impressive completion percentage and 12 touchdowns have led the franchise to be at the top. He has only had 5 interceptions and passed for a total of 1976 yards so far. He is not alone in catching the attention of the sports world. Eagles have a new star in their running back Saquon Barkley. You can’t forget Barkley’s insane backward hurdle over the Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones.

But despite this, let’s not also sideline what John Kincade has said. A true fan would also hear why his team is not there, to compare with, arguably the best QB of the league, leading the Chiefs with an insane record of 9-0. Some may argue that Hurts has had a better season with Mahomes leading the wrong charts (interceptions). However, at the end of the day, Mahomes is still the best when the going gets tough (on third downs and in the fourth quarter). A natural progress for Hurts’ game would be taking that jump, and every Eagles fan would love to see him do that in 2024.
