The 2023 season was quite a disappointment in the franchise history of the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite the 10-1 start as the defending champions, things went south towards the middle of the season, and they lost five out of the six games to the playoffs.
However, the upcoming season brings new hopes for the Birds fans. Their longtime center, Jason Kelce, has retired this offseason, and it is Jalen Hurts who will carry the team forward. However, one sports host isn’t keen on pinning hopes on the 25-year-old quarterback.

After the disheartening season, the franchise needs to make a serious comeback with Hurts leading from the front. While fans are hyped up watching the players sweat it out in the weight room, prepping up for the 2024 season, the host of The Carton Show isn’t very optimistic. While Craig Carton likes that the team has a good defense and players like A.J. Brown, Saquon Barkley, and DeVonta Smith, he isn’t sold on the quarterback.
“The Eagles have all the makings of NFC East Division champions, whole playoff games, and a run to an NFC Championship game, but I just don’t know about Jalen Hurts and what he is,” said the host. “… I’m not quite sure what that guy right there is, Jalen Hurts. If there is a team that is not gonna live up to the hype, it might be the Philadelphia Eagles.” While Carton’s words seem harsh, a similar sentiment about Hurts was echoed by Shaun King recently.
However, there are more important things on the quarterback’s mind at the moment. The OTAs have commenced, and joining the crew is a new addition, running back Saquon Barkley, whose chemistry with Hurts is already a good sign for the games to come.

The former New York Giants star is already getting familiarized with the Eagles culture. In the recent interview, Barkley expressed how working with Hurts has been a learning experience and something he looks forward to building upon. “It’s been amazing,” he said, as per NBC. “I’ve always admired his game from afar, not just Jalen, a whole bunch of guys here. So it’s been fun to learn the system, get into the weight room with these guys, get on the field with these guys, especially Jalen, and continue to build something.”
As the team’s official page posted a clip of the two practicing together, fans and analysts alike couldn’t help but take notice. The caption of the video with the duo running RPOs read, “Better get used to it.”
