Despite a loss for the Washington Commanders, rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels turned heads. And in a recent appearance at the Rod Tucker podcast, NFL analyst Greg Cosell couldn’t help but praise Daniels. He noted that despite the pressure, the young QB looked like a seasoned pro.
What stood out to Cosell was Daniels’ “precise ball placement” against tight man-to-man coverage, especially in the moments that mattered most. In one standout play, the 6 foot 3 inched player audibled a 42-yard pass to Brown. That showcased not just his arm strength but also his football IQ. Cosell wasn’t 100% on the call, yet he was blown away by how Daniels read the defense and adjusted on the fly. “He’s just a comfortable player,” the 68-year-old analyst remarked. “They really wanted him in this last game,” Cosell added, since the Commanders were focused on having the No. 2 overall 2024 draft pick’s play in rhythm, getting the ball out quickly.

However, the Commanders’ 14-7 loss to the Miami Dolphins wasn’t the outcome the Commanders’ QB or his team had hoped for. Despite leading two promising drives, the rookie QB couldn’t quite get his team into the end zone. Kicker Riley Patterson had to handle the scoring but only nailed one of his two field goal attempts, leaving six crucial points on the board.
The ever perfectionist Commanders’ quarterback wasn’t satisfied. “We just need to finish drives better,” he admitted, holding himself and his offense to a high standard. Given the performance of the 23-year-old in the recent games, there is no denying the fact that the team is looking up to him.
His performance in the preseason games so far, as well as his impact in the practise sessions, left his coach impressed among others.
