Six players and three others from the Kansas City Chiefs haven’t been attending the OTAs. While people are banking hard on the Chiefs to achieve their 3 peat dreams, players like Travis Kelce and Chris Jones have been absent from practice. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel because Patrick Mahomes was seen practicing with Xavier Worthy along with a few others.

Earlier, New Orleans Saints Linebacker Demario Davis had expressed his trust in the Chiefs training regimen. “I imagine if you look over at Kansas City they probably got 100% participation and they won the Super Bowl,” said the LB possibly hoping to follow in the Chiefs’ footsteps.

However, according to the Arrowhead Pride reporter Pete Sweeney, RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, DT Chris Jones, TE Travis Kelce, WR Kadarius Toney, DT Isaiah Buggs, and LG Joe Thuney were among a few who missed the voluntary training. Amidst this, there’s a specific reason why Kelce missed the training.

Reports came out that Travis Kelce is in LA filming a new horror TV series ‘Grotesque’, while a Swiftie potentially on social media posted that she thinks that Kelce is flying around the world with his girlfriend Taylor Swift and is in Portugal right now. Even Rashee Rice was spotted at the University of Kansas Health System Training Complex despite his legal troubles.

But that’s not the complete list of absentees. Turns out that DT Derrick Nandi, WR Xavier Worthy, and DE Charles Omenihu have been participating in a limited capacity, that is without any helmets. However, the absence of Chiefs’ stars won’t stop Xavier Worthy from proving himself and gunning for a starting position.

Worthy recently tweaked a hamstring while training and Patrick Mahomes, who was seen practicing on Wednesday sees a potential star in him. Andy Reid on the other hand is a bit understanding in his dealing with the rookie.

Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid’s impression of Xavier Worthy

Worthy, though present on the field, is not getting a lot of practice time as he was observed just standing there with the football on the field. Coach Reid reported the receiver’s tweaked hamstring and emphasized his focus on taking one thing at a time.

“When he gets back, we’ll take it from there,” said Reid. “He’s a smart kid. He’s got a good feel for things. He comes from a good system. He’s done a few of the things we’ve done in college, so he’ll just work through that. I think we’ll be all right.”

Worthy, who recorded a 4.21-seconds in the 40-yard dash, has made a strong impression on Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs QB and 3x Super Bowl winner was impressed by the receiver’s work ethic, but after the hamstring injury, Mahomes is focused on “going to be precautionary right now.”

“Before he had the hamstring thing, he was getting in there and getting the work in,” he noted. “Sometimes it’s tough for those guys coming off the Combine training. They want to prove what they can do from Day 1 — and then little injuries like that happen.” However, the QB is looking forward to working with Worthy because the team has been missing their fair share of receivers since the last season. “Whenever he does get back on the field, I’ll be excited to work with him,” said Mahomes of Worthy.

The final round of the OTA will be around June 4-7 and the mandatory training will be conducted on June 11-13. How do you think the Chiefs’ side will turn out to be in the practice performances with such major pressure of 3-peat on their shoulders? Let us know your thoughts below!
