“I will go be anyone’s quarterback, like, to that point, man. Like, I gotta get in the door. You know what I’m saying?” Yes, we know what you are trying to say, Jameis Winston. Destiny offered a chance at redemption after an Achilles injury ended Deshaun Watson’s season last year when the Browns confirmed Winston to be the starting QB. And Winston took it with both hands. Deshaun’s injury came as a blessing in disguise for both the Browns and Winston. The 30-year-old who did not get a chance to prove his worth in his last two years in New Orleans, did not slip this chance away. “I have truly embraced this city. I love the hard-nose… I am grateful for the fans challenging me and lifting up,” Winston said last season. Now, when the Browns need Winston more than ever until they get a QB this offseason, the once-eager Winston appears to be stepping away.
Before jumping to any conclusion about Winston as a starting QB, remember that he was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers picked him. However, it’s important to note that, Winston has not been a true starter since 2019 because of his sloppy performances. And let’s not talk about his QB days in New Orleans, where the 30YO completed only 20 TDs and 11 INTs in two seasons. But in the last few months, before hitting his free agency, Winston did what he needed to do—putting himself back on the radar just in time for the offseason.
Already set to hit free agency for the 3rd time in his 10-year NFL career, Winston has now issued a message for 31 NFL franchises who may be interested in taking their chance on Wobbly Winston. Wobbly, why? Because with Winston as your QB, you just never know when the next TD or an INT will come out of his hands.

Sitting down on the Bussin With The Boys podcast, Winston claimed, “I know I can win a shootout. I know I can go out there and surgically dissect any defense that comes my way.” Really? Those are some serious claims from a QB who likes to distribute his TDs and INTs equally. I mean, he replaced Deshaun Watson, who has been out of form for a while now.
A quick recap of his single season with the Browns:
Winston had a crazy start leading the Browns to an unlikely win over the Ravens, where he threw 3 TDs and passed for 334 yards. At least for a single week, the Dawg Pound thought Watson’s injury was a blessing in disguise. Because Winston followed up that Ravens game with 3 picks against the Chargers.

Cleveland scored just 10 points, and like that, the Dawg Pound found itself on Winston’s roller coaster. Up next was the week 13 prime-time game against the Broncos. Winston set the gridiron on fire, passing for 497 yards (an all-time franchise record for the Browns) and also threw 6 TDs (4 for the Browns and 2 for the Broncos.) Yet, Robinhood Winston’s 2 out of 3 INTs were returned for a TD as the Browns ended up losing 41-32. Come next week, Winston was at it again with his weekly 3 INTs quota.
So, obviously, the Browns had enough of Winston’s glimpses of brilliance and a weekly dose of horrors combo. And Kevin Stefanski benched him! Winston’s Browns’ tenure ended with 13 TDs and 12 INTs. So, let’s see which franchise is daring enough to hop on Winston’s QB ride. I mean, you will have to give up on Winston—no matter how badly he performed—he wasn’t even close to Watson’s levels. With one thing common between them, none will start for the Browns next year.

Deshaun Watson’s time in Cleveland is over?
If it wasn’t already written on the walls of Cleveland—NFL analyst Max Loeb reiterated something that the Browns will probably never get tired of listening to. Talking on The Big Factor, Loeb predicted kind of an already existing spoiler, “I think he can land on his feet somewhere. It is not in Cleveland. That ship has sailed.” Of course, Watson is only 29, with QBs expected to play till their late 30s, he’s got some time. So, there could be a slight chance of Watson turning around his career.
BUT! It’s most probably not gonna happen in Cleveland. The Browns have the No.2 overall pick, which they are almost certain to use on a QB. And if that happens, Watson may never see the gridiron again, at least in Cleveland.

And there’s also no return date for his next availability, as he is still recovering from his re-aggravated ACL injury. He is almost certain to miss at least half of the next season. And by the time he returns, Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward could be starting in his place.
With that coming true, the Browns will surely red-shirt Sanders by using their No.2 pick. So, only time will tell what kind of future the $230M QB has in the NFL. Either it will be a dark one, or it could be the comeback story of ages.
