Deshaun Watson just can’t catch a break and can’t help but garner unwanted attention. First, it was the embarrassing performance against the Dallas Cowboys and then, to his dismay, another lawsuit against him surfaced. The current lawsuit is not like the last 24 cases. Instead, it’s much more serious since it has underlying themes of alleged intercourse without consent.
While Watson’s lawyers are working day and night to get the situation under wraps, the plaintiff’s attorney is also going far and wide to take a stand for his client, Jane Doe, from Houston, Texas. But there are some more unexpected twists and turns in the Deshaun Watson saga as he was caught slipping in a recent press conference.
“Did you have any idea that this lawsuit was coming when you were playing on Sunday?” is the burning question a reporter asked the Cleveland Browns quarterback, who might be on the cusp of losing his 5-year $230 million contract. However, Watson denied any claims of knowing about the impending lawsuit before the game.

“No sir, found out exactly when everyone else found out,” Watson replied to the reporter. The post was shared by MLFootball with captions that imply that the quarterback “lied” about any prior knowledge of the incoming suit. But before we hear the plaintiff’s attorney, Tony Buzbee’s side of things, let’s look into the Browns Cowboys game.
In a nutshell, Watson struggled against the Cowboys, and it was miserable. Incomplete, forced, and overthrown passes were common in Watson’s game. He couldn’t figure out a way to not get sacked by Dallas’ defense. His performance was just an eyesore for everyone watching the game. Even the Browns fans started booing him at one point. He had a touchdown, threw 2 picks, and got sacked for a whopping six times. The passing numbers aren’t interesting either (24-45 over 169 yards).
Some might implore that Watson knew about the incoming lawsuit and that’s why his performance in the season opener had been abysmal. Keeping everything that has transpired in mind, it’s important to check Tony Buzbee’s side of the story. It was revealed earlier that Jane Doe was seeking $1 million in reparations and while Watson denied the charges and any knowledge of past negotiations with Jane Doe, her attorney has a different tale to tell.
Deshaun Watson is in all kinds of trouble
The anonymous victim accused Watson of “r-pe.” Buzbee didn’t reply to any media personnel individually. Rather, he sent out a very detailed statement that suggests that Watson’s attorney, Rusty Hardin, was aware of the impending lawsuit for the past 10 months and mentioned that Jane Doe wanted a “private resolution.”

“We reached out to attorney Rusty Hardin’s office for ten months in an attempt to resolve this case. We knew this case was the most serious and egregious case brought against Watson to date and our client, who is rightly traumatized by these events, wanted to attempt a private resolution,” Buzbee said in a recent statement.
He also criticized Watson’s lawyers for not reaching out to him in time. However, the QBs attorneys are working around the clock now. Buzbee’s statement also strongly and repeatedly implied that Watson “knows who the woman is” and is vehemently denying all the charges against him. Buzbee, who also represented some other women for past lawsuits against Watson, added that “We look forward to a trial by jury.”

“Deshaun strongly denies the allegations in the Jane Doe lawsuit filed Monday,” Hardin said in a statement released to KPRC 2 and other media outlets. “We have asked him not to comment further while this matter works its way through the courts but are comfortable. He will ultimately be vindicated.” That’s what the people with briefcases think about Deshaun’s case.
It’s notable that Watson missed 11 games in the 2022 season and 11 more in the next season. Moreover, the NFL had fined him $5m in the past for his lack of conduct. The NFL has also reportedly launched a probe against Watson and this time, he might face some serious repercussions from the law and the NFL’s player conduct policy.
