Russell Wilson‘s name is almost synonymous with the Denver Broncos at present. While the QB is an unmatched asset for the team, his recent interactions with the HC have left a bitter taste in the mouth of Sean Payton. Though Wilson continues to hold the main attention of the Broncos team, HC Payton potentially has a new favorite player who demands his praises.

Sean Payton came out in a presser and discussed the 7-7 Broncos’ immediate future as they go against the Pats on Christmas. Amidst all the talks about the next clash, Payton addressed finding something special about “quiet” CB Patrick Surtain II. Acknowledging his dedication and will to learn, the coach commented about being honored to be able to coach a player like Surtain II.

During the press conference, a reporter wasted no time and asked the coach about the aspects of coaching Pat Surtain II he liked and preferred. Payton reinforced Surtain’s ‘quiet’ demeanor and thought that “it was a pleasure to coach him.” The coach highlighted how he often delves into the past with Surtain II and they talk about the times when the HC had an encounter with his father, who was playing with the Chiefs as a cornerback at that time, while Payton was a coordinator at the Saints.

Sean Payton revealed Surtain II as someone who is “quiet, works hard and very respected.” Payton then added, “He’s strong, his personality, you know, he’s more quiet, but man, he’s you know, right what you’re getting and uh, it’s a pleasure to coach him.” It hasn’t been long since Surtain II entered the NFL race, and he is already making a name for himself in a positive light.

He started in 2021 with the Broncos and has been displaying signs of great commitment to his role. So far, his performance has been exemplary. A thing to note about Surtain II is, he’s played all the games this season without fail and in each of the last three seasons, he has had 45 solo tackles to his name. That’s one heck of a coincidence, isn’t it? This year though, he has defended 10 passes so far and has one interception to show for this season.

While the CB still is making his place stronger in the world of football, it’s safe to say that the HC is pretty invested in Patrick Surtain II. This adoration for the young star came subsequently after we saw Sean Payton yell at Russell Wilson on the sidelines of the last game and the video took over the internet immediately.

One of the fans said that Payton “is a dictator” and added that this behavior is not tolerable and could have been resolved more professionally. The speculation behind this scuffle is that maybe it happened because of the team’s lack of performance. Or maybe something didn’t sit well with Wilson and he decided to confront it with the HC and the coach ended up getting irked.

The Broncos will be hosting the New England Patriots on Christmas and the game is a must-win for them. They might be at an advantage here because it’s a home game for the Broncos. While the eyes will remain set on Payton-Wilson’s interaction in the game, the recent comments from the coach have also brought the CB’s actions under the limelight.
