Blake Cashman believes in the Texans' future—do you share his optimism?

Is DeMeco Ryans a wizard? Not only did he lead the Houston Texans to the postseason in his first gig as a head coach, but also predicted a pick that led to a touchdown in the wild-card game against the Browns. Maybe his past life as a linebacker flashed through his eyes and he knew exactly what to do in the moment.

Former Texans linebacker Blake Cashman knew exactly what went down and recalled it in a conversation on the recent segment of Green Light with Chris Long. Maybe he can keep his play calling abilities up and lead the Texans to another playoff run this year, especially with all the offseason success they’ve had following the 2023 season.

“One of our linebackers Christian Harris in the playoffs took a pick six and took it to the endzone and right before we took the field, DeMeco is on the iPad saying, ‘they’re going to run this play again. Don’t move, jump the route,’ and he did. I mean, he coached him up, Christian did exactly what he was supposed to do, and he ended up finding the endzone and that’s the kind of coach he is,” said Cashman of his former head coach.

It was the third quarter of the Texans-Browns wild card game with Joe Flacco at quarterback and within the blink of an eye, Christian Harris realized what DeMeco Ryans had told him was about to happen. What was left was to execute the plan and boy did he execute flawlessly.

Flacco took a couple of steps back and threw a laser. But it was like Christian Harris had already seen the future and all he had to do was get in the way of the ball and voila, No. 48 ran it to the end zone and the Texans were up by 38-14! And just like that’ Flacco’s 307 yards and 1 touchdown didn’t mean anything.

DeMeco Ryans’ advice from one linebacker to another worked out perfectly. The upcoming season is supposed to be even more exciting with all the off season changes that Texans have done this year.

Can DeMeco Ryans have a breakout season this year?

Highly likely. If there’s one thing that Offensive Rookie of the Year CJ Stroud has taught us is that he takes care of his receivers. A 23-5 TD-Int ratio is something a lot of QBs dream of for their rookie season. Under him, the rookie receiver Tank Dell got a lot of spotlight and Stroud made his rookie season a success, along with holding his own fort.

However, per Cashman, the Texans off season signings will play a role just as big as CJ Stroud dropping dimes to his receivers without any interruptions. “I think the Houston Texans are gonna be a really good football team for a really long time,” said Cashman and added, “They got the leadership, they obviously got the pieces in the locker room. They even loaded up more this year.”

The biggest signing by the Houston Texans in this off season might come off as Stefon Diggs, but there’s more to the Texans successful off season beyond the surface. The Texans are loaded up on defense, and we mean LOADED UP! They signed Danielle Hunter to join the DROY Will Anderson Jr. to improve Texans pass rush this year.

Not to mention the signing of 4 cornerbacks, 3 DEs, 2 Linebackers (including Azeez Al-Shaair) and a whole lot more and they’ve gone all out shelled as much money as their cap system allows them to fortify the defense. Pro Football Network ranked Texans at No. 8 in terms of defense this year, thanks to Will Anderson Jr., Danielle Hunter and Azeez Al-Shaair.

We’ll just have to see if the defense matches the offensive firepower with CJ Stroud, Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, and Tank Dell carrying the team along with Leremy Tunsil, who is easily a top 10 offensive tackle in the league.
