The 2024 season proved to be a disappointing one for Jerry Jones. Scraping together only seven wins, the Cowboys had an early exit from the playoff race. And the season finale against the Commanders. They lost that too, 19-23. Dallas fans can finally put this disappointing season to rest. However, after ending the season on a bad note, there is something to smile about for Dallas fans.

The team’s star linebacker, DeMarvion Overshown, provided an update on his return for the next season. The Texas alum suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 14 against the Bengals. The injury was so severe that he required surgery to repair his ACL, MCL, and PCL. There had been no confirmation of when he would return. But Overshown announced on Monday that his recovery is nine months and when asked when he’ll return from knee surgery said, “I’ll be back playing football for sure in 2025 and it won’t be in December it will be before that.” That’s hopeful.

Making his debut in 2023, Overshown spent most of his rookie season off the gridiron due to a torn ACL. The linebacker suffered the injury during a preseason game against the Seahawks. And then, this season, after playing 13 games, he was sidelined for the rest of the year. (Talk about bad luck?) Injuries took a toll on Dallas this season. Their QB Dak Prescott missed half the season after hurting his right thigh. He had a hamstring tear that required surgery, which kept him sidelined for several weeks. DE DeMarcus Lawrence also had to be off the gridiron due to a foot injury.

Well, hopefully, next season will be better for them. But they still need to make quick decisions for their head coach Mike McCarthy. For now, the talk of the town is that the Chicago Bears are eyeing Dallas‘ head coach to fill their HC position.

Jerry Jones’ Cowboys HC to interview for Bears coaching gig?

After a rough season, the Bears are also looking forward to making a strong comeback next season. For that, they need to sort out a couple of things first. The number one priority is finding a head coach for the team. They fired Matt Eberflus this season after the Thanksgiving Day game against the Lions. Eberflus had always been in hot water this season due to his poor coaching decisions.

After that, they turned to offensive coordinator Thomas Brown to step up as interim head coach for the remaining season. The team had high expectations for Brown, but when it rains, it pours. Even Brown couldn’t save them from falling short. Now, reports are that Chicago is considering Jerry Jones‘ team’s HC, Mike McCarthy, for the role.

As per Adam Schefter, “Chicago Bears have sought permission to interview Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy and are awaiting a response from Dallas.” On January 14, McCarthy’s negotiating window with Dallas will expire. After that, the Bears can reach out to him for talks, even if the Cowboys reject their request to interview him. The former Packers coach, McCarthy, led the Packers to win Super Bowl XLV. “If the Cowboys don’t allow permission this week, the Bears could interview McCarthy after his exclusive negotiating window with Dallas expires Jan. 14,” reported Adam Schefter.

Last year, Jerry Jones made it clear that the team wouldn’t be saying goodbye to their head coach anytime soon. For this season, as his five-year contract with the team expires, Jones still hasn’t said a word about his extension. “I don’t know that I am considering making a change. That’s what the next few days and weeks are about now,” said Jones.

Whatever is there in Jones’s mind, he needs to make a quick move, or else he might lose McCarthy. The Cowboys surely need a strong leader to head them in the new season with positivity.
