Is Shannon Sharpe too harsh on Mahomes, or does the QB deserve the criticism?

Feel like I haven’t played very well.,Patrick Mahomes said this after his three wins in the 2024 regular season. Besides this, once again, Mahomes and his Kansas City Chiefs won their Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. So, although the KC quarterback has taken all the blame on his shoulders for the persisting offensive struggles in the team, they are still undefeated this season so far. But like Mahomes, Shannon Sharpe too thinks the 28-year-old isn’t in his full form.

In a recent episode of Nightcap on September 29, 2024, Deion Sanders joined Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson to react to current NFL games. As week 4 saw Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs win over the Chargers, it was obvious for the hosts to bring up that topic. However, in that lively debate, Sharpe critiqued Patrick Mahomes, pointing out that the star quarterback “is not as sharp as we are used to seeing him.” He even noticed that Mahomes missed several throws in the game he normally would have completed. And hence, this led him to question his performance.

However, Deion Sanders sees this differently, as he quickly jumped in to defend Patrick Mahomes – “Okay okay, we ain’t gonna do that name his receivers.” Coach Prime urged Sharpe to consider the receivers Mahomes has this season. Not only that! He even joked around, heckling Sharpe for stumbling over his words.

After hearing the receivers’ question, Sharpe responded by naming Travis Kelce, who had a great game, and some of the other receivers on the team, like Xavier Worthy and Justin Watson. But Sanders remained firm in defending the QB, as he suggested Mahomes doesn’t have the same caliber of receivers as he did before, especially after losing a major offensive weapon like Tyreek Hill.

Hence, Sharpe, too, acknowledged at last. He admitted that while Mahomes has raised the bar incredibly high due to his MVP performances and Super Bowl wins, it’s a challenge to maintain that level without some of the key players he’s had in the past. Despite Patrick Mahomes questioning his caliber this time, one thing is evident – he is content with the Chiefs’ team.

Patrick Mahomes repeated his previous take with a good addition!

The Chiefs are on fire! With four wins in a row, they just took down the Chargers in Week 4 on Sunday. As mentioned by Shannon Sharpe, it’s true that Patrick Mahomes didn’t have his sharpest game, going 19 for 29 with 245 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. But after the win, Mahomes made one thing clear – this victory was all about the defense.

In a post-game presser, he admitted, “We weren’t playing good. But I think the best thing is, no one talks about it and they start to now, but our defense is really good. They know how to shut the door and keep us in games. Then they believe that the offense is going to find a way to score enough points at the end.” According to the NFL, the Chiefs’ offense has been ranked at number 10, and hence, Mahomes and the company need to buckle up to improve their game.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs now have an incredible “six-game winning streak over the Chargers and 11 straight road game wins against them.” It’s the longest-active road streak in the league, and now the Chiefs sit at 4-0 for the first time since 2020. Will they achieve their 3-peat?
