The Buffalo Bills had everyone lose their head when they offered a monstrous contract extension to their quarterback, Josh Allen. And not just any extension—a $330 million deal for the next six years. What makes it even more interesting is that Allen was already signed with the Bills through 2028. But c’mon, the guy just snagged his first MVP after recording one of the best seasons of his career—so, call it a well-deserving deal.

Now that the Bills are done securing their QB for six more years, they’re gearing up to bolster the roster in free agency. On Wednesday, Sean McDermott’s team re-signed the Safety Damar Hamlin on a one-year contract extension. The guy was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent. However, considering Hamlin was one of the team’s full-time starters at safety, the team decided to extend his contract for one more year.

The team shared the news on their official ‘X’ handle. “We’ve agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with (Damar Hamlin),” they wrote in their post.

The Bills drafted the 26-year-old Hamlin in sixth round (212th overall pick) back in the 2021 NFL draft. The guy signed his four-year rookie contract worth $3.6 million. Speaking of his rookie season, Hamlin didn’t get an opportunity to shine on the field as he recorded just two tackles and two pass breakup in 14 games played.

However, he had a breakout season in his sophomore year, where he started 13 games out of the 15 that he played. Hamlin finished his second season with the Bills recording 91 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Then came year three, and that’s when everything changed. The Bills Safety suffered a cardiac arrest during the team’s Week 17 game against the Bengals on January 2, 2023. Following his recovery, he just appeared in five games.

Fast forward to the last season of his rookie contract, Hamlin earned a starting role on Buffalo’s defense considering the team parted ways with the starting safeties Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. His track record? Let’s just say it’s enough for the Bills to trust the guy for another season. The guy racked up 89 tackles—third-most on the team—and even snagged a share of the team lead with two picks.

After the conclusion of his contract, Hamlin was set to explore the free agency market. However, considering he earned the starting role almost a couple of years after that life-changing event, Hamlin is set to enter his fifth year of his career. And just like that, Sean McDermott and the Bills locked in their guy for yet another season.
