M&T stadium will be roaring with fans when the Steelers and Ravens will fight for their place in the second round of NFL playoffs. The Steelers are ahead in the all time series, leading with 36-26 overall. Both teams have gone head to head 4 times in the postseason, the Steelers went 3-1 in those games. We are all aware of the fact that the Steelers have been going through a rough phase. They have lost five playoff games under HC Mike Tomlin, and losing this game would mean another disappointing finish. For both teams, it will be about going big or going home.

In the midst of it all, New York Jets wide receiver Davante Adams recently shared his thoughts on the Steelers’ chances against the Ravens. During a recent appearance on the Up and Adams Show, Adams confidently stated, “I think they (Steelers) got a chance because they have a really good defense. If all else fails, defense wins championships.” These words highlight that the defense has earned its praise. If executed effectively, it could be the key to their success.

Despite their offensive struggles, their defense has consistently kept going, often providing the team with opportunities to stay competitive. Statistically, they had the most well-rounded defense in 2024. They were limiting opponents to just 8.7 points per game. DeShon Elliot is one of the main reasons they were able to achieve that.

Whenever he stepped on the field, they were allowing only 4.8 yards per play. Not just that, they have the 2021 winner of the NFL defensive player of the year, T.J. Watt. He recently received the Steelers’ MVP award for the fifth time. So, it’s safe to say, Steelers got aces up their sleeves, but it all boils down to whether they will be able to perform when it matters the most.

The Ravens, however, will turn out to be a challenge for the Steelers. They ended the regular season with a 12-5 record. Their pass rush has been impressive, 50 sacks during the season, with Roquan Smith and Odafe Oweh leading the way. And how can we forget Lamar Jackson, who has been exceptional with 4,112 total yards and 33 TDs? Recently, Derrick Henry was able to steal the spotlight too. He posted 162 rushing yards against Pittsburgh. With their balanced team, the Ravens can turn out as a real problem for the Steelers.

Davante Adams’ Praise for Pickens fuels speculation about Steelers connection

During his appearance on the Up and Adams Show, Davante Adams also took the time to praise Steelers WR, George Pickens. He stated, “He’s a unique player. He’s got a very unorthodox style. And I’ve told him that I’m a fan of his since college.” Despite Pickens’ disappointing 0-yard performance in the Steelers’ season ending loss to the Bengals, Adams admired the talent of the young receiver.

All these statements from Adams confirmed the fact that he sees the Steelers’ as a team with great potential. Adams, who enjoyed years of success with Aaron Rodgers, is reportedly looking for a new team after his brief stint with the Jets. Adams’ contract, carrying a $35.6 million base salary in 2025, makes him more suited for playoff-ready teams like the Steelers or Chargers, who need immediate upgrades at receiver.

Pittsburgh’s focus on building a younger, cost-effective roster may limit their chase of the 32-year-old star. However, if the Steelers act aggressively, Adams could provide the offensive spark that is needed to complement their already well built defense and become a strong force again.
