Wide receiver Davante Adams has been making some very cryptic posts on social media recently. After it came out that the Las Vegas Raiders’ were looking to trade their decorated wide receiver, the rumors have been constant. There’s been speculation he might try to find his way to the New York Jets. This would find him a place alongside old teammate Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers and Adams had spent 8 years together at the Green Bay Packers, 2014-21.

It’s not locked in, though, and he’s technically up for the highest bidder to take. It’s not likely they’ll come calling till his hamstring injury heals up, though. Evidently there’s been interest from the Saints, Steelers, Ravens, Bills, and Cowboys at the very least. In the latest news, though, a social media post from Adams featuring a picture of Edgar Allan Poe has sparked a new discussion.

Edgar Allan Poe is perhaps best known for his poem, “The Raven.” You might already be able to tell where this is going. Poe spent much of his life in Baltimore, and when it came time to name their football team, they did so by honoring him – the Baltimore Ravens. Any guesses where Adams is hinting he’ll be transferred then? A shame if he doesn’t get to play alongside Rodgers. Even though he’s 40, the Jets quarterback has indicated he’ll be playing beyond this season.

A missed opportunity, especially when Aaron Rodgers seems to have hinted he wanted Adams by his side. It almost seemed poised to happen, but I suppose it was just some late visitor entrance at the Jets’ chamber door, eh?

Is Adams a lock-in for the Ravens?

Davante Adams’ 2022 5-year, $141.25 million deal with the Raiders made him the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL at the time. Has he lived up to that? Well, 2022 saw him make the most receiving touchdowns in the entire league, at 14. He’s also had consistent 100+ reception and 1000+ yard seasons ever since 2020. If you look at the Baltimore RavensZay Flowers, he’s definitely done a decent job in the position. Sure, his track record fizzles in comparison to Adams, but he’s only in his second year. He was a first-round pick and needs to be given time to mature as a player.

Will he manage that with Adams in the squad? With a contract the size of his, the management would have to be crazy to bench him. Plus, Adams is only 31, he’s not ready to be consigned to a backup role. He’s a marvel on the field and wants to show it off. Taking him on will mean either downsizing Flowers or passing him on to someone who’ll make use of him. And if you look at the New York Jets, it’s quite the same story, with Garrett Wilson in only his third year. He’s even had a better track record than Flowers, though again, that doesn’t mean much with a 2 year history.

As a player, Adams blows these two out of the water in terms of experience and talent, and is a definite asset for any team that takes him. They’ll just have to do the math. Do they want to invest in a proven racehorse or develop the talent they’ve already got?
