Davante Adams was born on December 24, 1992, to Pamela Brown and Douglas Adams in Redwood City, California, United States. However, due to unknown reasons, Pamela and Douglas separated when Davante was just 2 years old. Since then, Adams grew up with his single mother, who worked tirelessly to support him and keep him out of trouble. The troublesome part is that the place, East Palo Alto, where Adams went to play during childhood, was prone to multiple shootings at that time.
Despite working two jobs and barely getting any sleep, Pamela ensured son Adams stayed focused on his dreams. The athlete himself is very close to his mother and deeply appreciates her sacrifice. He recalls how she would braid hair late into the night, and still wake up early to take him to school. On the other hand, Adams’ father, Douglas, was a talented high school basketball player. He also influenced him by passing on his athleticism.
Although Adams loved basketball and was very competitive, his drive and work ethic came from his mother. Growing up without an allowance, he cherished the small amounts of money his mom gave him for school meals. He felt lucky and determined to succeed so his mom wouldn’t have to struggle anymore. Furthermore, throughout his journey, the wide receiver always remembered his mother’s advice and hard work, which kept him grounded and motivated.
Additionally, once in a 2022 interview with Pivot Podcast, Adams revealed how he initially struggled with confidence, but his parents’ support helped him persevere. He recalled, “Some of that stuff is (hard) if you don’t have your mind all the way, right. And I didn’t, it was hard for me to bounce back… So it’s a lot different now. And, you know, I was able to come out of that just because my circle, my mom was in my corner, my dad the same way.”
