Will Adams and Rodgers recreate their Green Bay magic in New York, or is it just wishful thinking?

In a shocking move, the New York Jets have acquired star wide receiver Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a conditional third-round pick that can become a second-rounder based on performance. This trade reunites Adams with his former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and the Jets are hoping to reignite the magic that made them one of the most formidable duos in the NFL.

Adams has finally broken his silence following the blockbuster trade that sent him from the Raiders to the New York Jets. In a cryptic yet telling Instagram story, Adams posted a video of his daughter giggling, just moments after news of the trade was confirmed. While Adams didn’t directly comment on the trade, the timing of the post suggests he’s more than happy with the move. Fans too are speculating that the WR is ready to bring some serious energy to the Big Apple.

So, why did the Raiders decide to part ways with Adams? The answer lies in their struggles on the field and Adams’ desire for a change of scenery. With a 2-4 record and a point differential of negative-54, the Raiders realized they weren’t contenders in 2024. The 32-year-old didn’t fit their window for contention, and trading him allowed them to capitalize on a seller’s market for receivers. The Raiders also freed up $28.4 million in cap space for the 2025 NFL offseason by offloading Adams’ contract.

The reunion between Adams and Rodgers is a tantalizing prospect. During their time together in Green Bay (2014-2021), they racked up over 7,500 yards and 69 touchdowns. Adams earned five consecutive Pro Bowl trips, averaging over 1,100 receiving yards per season. With Rodgers pushing for the Jets to make the trade, it’s clear that both parties are excited about the reunion.

Other teams, including the New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Buffalo Bills, were reportedly interested in acquiring Adams. However, the Jets’ reunion with Rodgers proved too enticing for the star receiver to resist.

Davante Adams’ salary and contract details

The Jets have agreed to take on Adams’ entire contract, paying his full salary for the remainder of his time with the Raiders. According to Spotrac, Adams’ 2024 salary is $11.6 million. This move puts the Jets’ adjusted salary cap at $261.1 million, with $5.6 million in remaining cap space.

The conditional third-round pick becomes a second-rounder if Adams receives first- or second-team All-Pro honors or if he’s on the active roster when the Jets play in the AFC Championship or Super Bowl, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Jets still own all their picks in the first six rounds of the 2025 draft, plus an extra sixth-rounder and seventh-rounder from the Kansas City Chiefs.

“I’m excited to be reunited with Aaron Rodgers and start this new chapter with the Jets,” Adams said. “I’m looking forward to bringing my skills to New York and helping the team make a playoff push.” When asked about his departure from the Raiders, Adams remained diplomatic: “All I can control is what’s next. I’m focused on the Jets and making an impact.”

The trade deadline is November 5, and with Adams off the market, teams may turn their attention to other receivers like Amari Cooper, Diontae Johnson, and DeAndre Hopkins. Will the Jets’ bold move pay off? Only time will tell.
