First few weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers started like the world beaters. Last five weeks, the team’s just trying to find their footing—guess the steel’s started to lose its shine. Sure, Mike Tomlin got the start he expected at the beginning of the season, but the end? Nah, he and the Steelers didn’t get a happy ending. Their bitter rivals, the Baltimore Ravens, thrashed them outta the park in the wild-card round.
Disheartening for the Steelers fans, right? But wait, that’s not the only embarrassing record the Pittsburgh fans had to face lately. Yeah, you heard that right! Besides the Steelers, other Pittsburgh teams like Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Panthers, and PSU have lost 19 straight games between them. Talk about an embarrassing season in all sports for Pittsburgh. That’s tough, right?

Mike Tomlin and Co. entered the wild-card round after facing four straight losses in the regular season. The head coach would have wanted to make a historical comeback by defeating the Ravens and securing the divisional round. However, Lamar Jackson and the Ravens came prepared as they took a 21-0 half-time lead. Guess the Steelers didn’t get a chance to make a comeback from there as they lost the game by 14-28.
The Steelers set a playoff record as they allowed a staggering 299 yards against the Ravens. “There’s football justice. You get what you deserve,” Tomlin said Tuesday in his final press conference. “We’re here and we’re here for really tangible reasons. We didn’t evolve in the right ways. We didn’t strike the right chords at the right time, particularly down the stretch, so we’ve been eliminated from the single-elimination tournament.”
On the flip side, the football season didn’t end on a high note for the Pittsburgh college football team either. Well, the funny thing is the Pittsburgh Panthers had a similar season to the Steelers. The Panthers started their season with a bang and won all their starting 7 games. Enter week 9 and the team tasted its first defeat against the SMU Mustangs. And that folks is where the losing streak for the Panthers kicked off.
After encountering their first defeat of the season, the Panthers lost their next 5 games. As a matter of fact, the team wrapped up its season with 7-6 after six consecutive losses. But wait, besides football, there’s much more to discover about the Pittsburgh sports this season.

Let’s take a detour from the Pittsburgh football world, shall we? The Pittsburgh Panthers (Basketball) are currently standing at 7th in the ACC with 12-5 track record. The Panthers had a solid start as they won their first six games, and 12 after their first 14 games. However, things are pretty tensed with them as of right now as they are on a losing streak of three games.
In the last three games, the Panthers showed one of the worst gameplays as they lost against the Duke Blue Devils (47-76), Louisville Cardinals (78-82) and Florida State Seminoles (82-70).
Even the Pittsburgh Penguins are in the same boat. It sounds insane, but the Penguins also have lost their last three games against the Seattle Kraken (2-4), Tampa Bay Lightning (5-2), and Ottawa Senators (5-2). Looks like Mike Tomlin isn’t the only one with frustrations about continuous losses. Or should we say, the Steelers fans aren’t the only ones pulling their hair out over these losses. After all, the whole city seems strangled in frustration.

The reason? Well, there’s something more to add to this frustration. To add to the wound, their professional baseball team, the Pittsburgh Pirates, also lost their last game. And if we add PSU’s last defeat as well, it took the losing record is sitting at a whopping 19 games. Just like Mike Tomlin and Co., there might be some serious conversation happening amongst the teams in Pittsburgh. But why do you think this is happening? Any guesses?
