Just 4-13! The Las Vegas Raiders arguably had an abysmal season this time. As a result, the team decided to part ways with their head coach, Antonio Pierce, on January 7. It seemed like they were clear with their future HC, as they soon hired Pete Carroll as the team’s next head coach on a three-year deal. Now, their next move is a bit obvious, a new quarterback.
On Monday, former QB Mark Sanchez joined host Jason Mcintyre on The Herd with Colin Cowherd show. And there he gave a possibility of Pete Carroll uniting with the wildcard quarterback, Daniel Jones. Yes! Jones, who arguably came after a substandard Giants stint, saw the playoffs with the Vikings in 2024. But as Sam Darnold was holding the fort for Minnesota, Jones’s future always remained under looming black clouds.
However, the doubts and tensions surrounding Daniel Jones may come to an end if Pete Carroll’s plans work. According to Sanchez, it can! He said, “Do not sleep on Daniel Jones. Wherever that guy goes, if he lands in the right spot that would be one of the best places for him with that head coach (Carroll). He has all the ability in the world. That kid would be dialed there, I love, I love that possibility.” Even Jones will be eager to break free.

Daniel Jones was never active for any game in Minnesota since his signing in November 2024 with the team. His future with the team too doesn’t look strong enough. The Vikings signed him mid-season. Earlier, with the NY Giants, Jones maintained a consistent completion rate of over 60 percent.
In the 10 games he played for the Giants during the 2024 season, the QB recorded 2,070 yards with eight touchdowns. However, he suffered 29 sacks and threw seven interceptions. Jones has struggled since the 2023 season, during which his QB rating dropped to a career-low of 37.1. In just six games, he was sacked 30 times and threw six interceptions for a mere 909 yards. However, injuries and his 2023 knee surgery after an ACL tear may explain his struggles.
Looking at that, Pete Carroll, who will be handling a new team, could get Jones to create some magic and build some moments in the Raiders. But the catch here is, according to Vikings insider Darren Wolfson, Minnesota wants Jones to be back with the team for the next season. And now, Sanchez’s comments on the Raiders looking for him have made things a bit complex.
So, let’s see what happens next. If Daniel Jones happens to join Pete Carroll on his mission, it will eventually cut the possibility of Russell Wilson.
Russell Wilson doesn’t want to join Pete Carroll?
Pittsburgh quarterback Russell Wilson has worked with Pete Carroll during their Seahawks’ tenure for 10 years. During this phase, the duo managed to make two Super Bowl appearances – winning one. However, now that they’re on different teams, the obvious question is: will the duo reunite?

The reporters asked pending free agent Russell Wilson about Pete Carroll’s possibility. To which, the QB made something clear: “I’m looking forward to hopefully going back to the Steelers and we’ll see what happens with the rest…. I’ve been fortunate to play 13-plus years, and I’ve got a lot more b-ll left in me I think staying healthy is always the thing. You’ve got to be healthy to play your best, and I feel great right now….Pete’s going to be a great coach, obviously. He’s great at what he does. But I’m focused on the Steelers.”

Russell Wilson confirmed that at the moment he is happy to be in Pittsburgh, despite his love for the Hawks. But as his 1-year deal with the franchise is dying this offseason, the team is yet to make a new contract. And with Justin Fields on the roster, it seems quite difficult.
