Daniel Jones received backlash throughout the New York Giants’ 2023 season. After much trial and error, the team gave Tommy DeVito a chance, and he was successful in a few games. And now, this New York team is trying to find a new QB, and Daniel Jones might not be in the picture in the coming season.

Jones carries a cap hit of about $47 million, and letting him go might be the best thing the Giants can do right now. The QB unfortunately suffered an injury in the right knee, which put him out for the entire season while having played just six games. The NY Giants might be looking at fresh QB prospects after this. But there’s a catch!

Are the Giants still interested in Daniel Jones?

After everything, the Giants still have faith in Daniel Jones, and there are several reasons behind their trust. First, Jones played without Saquon Barkley and LT Andrew Thomas for the better part of his season. Also, the O-Line wasn’t doing their best to protect Jones from the danger.

Keeping all this and his four-year $160 million deal in mind, Joe Schoen mentioned in November, “The expectation is when Daniel (Jones) is healthy that he’ll be our starting quarterback.” However, things have changed, and the Giants are looking at new prospects for the QB position — mainly because they have a sixth draft pick this year, which is a perfect time to draft an up-and-coming QB while saving some funds, considering how large Jones’ contract is.

So, the Giants find themselves contesting whether they should keep Jones or hire people like Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr. For now, people like Caleb Williams remain an exotic choice for the Giants because he is one of the most in-demand players in the league. But this doesn’t mean that the Giants are trapped at all.

For now, the Giants have two months to plan their next move. They can either go for the sixth pick or trade some players to equip themselves with a better draft pick. This would allow the new QB to learn the ropes under the guidance of Jones so that the Giants have a better arsenal.

However, his ACL injury prohibits him from stepping on the gridiron soon. We’re not comparing Jones to Aaron Rodgers, but the Giants’ situation is like that of the Jets when they hired Rodgers, only to have him retire for the rest of the season. Though he taught Zach Wilson about the game, things didn’t work out for the team.

Hopefully, that’s not the case with Daniel Jones.
