Is Daniel Jones the biggest disappointment for the Giants, or is there still hope for him?

Playing in New York, the Giants’ expectations from the Cowboys clash weren’t too great considering their abysmal 6-0 record. But on the night when everyone thought it would be a walk in the park for the Cowboys. The Giants strung a few surprises, but it wasn’t enough to snap their losing streak that continues to expand.

Amid their strong showing at MetLife Stadium, it was yet another disappointing night for their QB, Daniel Jones. Although he wasn’t that bad, having completed 29-of-40 passes for 281 yards, his zero touchdowns after four games into the season is not something expected from an NFL QB. Him not being good enough led to ex-NFLer Marcus Spears throwing an ultimatum towards Jones on the GetUp ESPN show, “I need you to either be bad so that we can make a decision or I need you to be good so we know where we are. Daniel Jones is neither. He is in the middle of the abyss. Somewhere where nobody else lives.”

Well, the Giants ended up scoring five field goals without a touchdown; that doesn’t bode well for Jones. As former Giants head coach Bill Parcells said, “Quarterbacks are judged by how often they get their team in the zone and how often they lead their team to victory.” However, for Jones, it wasn’t happening with near misses on the night. One of those instances came during the closing quarters when the Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs sensationally picked off an under-thrown pass to Darius Slayton from free play.

Looking back, if the pass had been accurate like expected from an NFL QB, it could have led to the Giants scoring a touchdown. And possibly winning on the night, thereby breaking their 6-game losing streak against Dallas. Although it didn’t happen the way Jones could have expected, the Giants’ head coach, Brian Daboll, did praise his QB, “Three games in a row. I’m proud of him. He’s made good decisions and thrown the football where he needs to throw the football. I’m proud of how he’s performed, how he’s prepared.”

Even left tackle Andrew Thomas jumped into the wagon to praise their QB, “D.J. played great. He stood in the pocket, made some off-schedule plays. We’ve just got to be better up from for him.” While Jones’ teammates came to his defense, Jones expressed his frustration after the narrow loss to the Cowboys.

Daniel Jones left frustrated after loss despite outperforming vs Cowboys

After the final whistle blew in New York, the Giants were left to ponder what would have been if one pass made its way to the end zone. Having scored five field goals on the night and outplaying the Cowboys on multiple corners, the Giants came up a little short. As expressed by the Giants’ guard Jon Runyan, “You can’t be settling by kicking five field goals and hope to win in the NFL. You get down to the red zone, you gotta put touchdowns on the board.”

On the night when field goals ended up hurting the Giants’ victory march in New York. They seemingly outperformed the Cowboys on yardage with 303 over their 293. And that wasn’t all, as they had more first-downs at 16 and fewer penalties at 4 compared to the Cowboys 11. However, their 0-for-1 in goal-to-go situations and zero touchdowns confirmed their defeat at MetLife Stadium.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Daniel Jones the biggest disappointment for the Giants, or is there still hope for him?

Have an interesting take?

Expressing his thoughts after the game, Jones shared, “Very frustrating. We’re expected to score touchdowns and put points on the board. And in a game that I felt like we were able to do a lot and move the football well and execute a lot of stuff well. We didn’t execute the red zone stuff and didn’t punch it in, so that’s frustrating.” As the Giants are left to wonder about their shortcomings, it extended their six-game losing streak to the Cowboys.

Will they be able to turn around their season, considering their lack of touchdowns after four games of the regular season? Or is the season already over for the Giants, who have yet to score a touchdown at home?
