The New York Giants kicked off their 2024 with a 14-3 win against the Lions. That was pre-season. When it seemed the team was finally going to have it right. How did the season start? Along expected lines. A 6-28 loss to the Vikings. Now, at 2-8, the Giants have the Browns and the Seahawks to thank for letting them get something into the win column. They’re sitting at the bottom of the NFC East. The outlook seems bleak, almost as if not even Thanos could pull them out of the depths of despair. The lowest they scored this season was 3 against their divisional foes, the Eagles. Every Giants fan might wish they could erase this from memory. But right when you think it can’t get any worse, it just does. Recently, Giants head coach Brian Daboll benched starting quarterback Daniel Jones, leaving the team confused and unsettled.
To take his place, the Giants are bringing in Tommy DeVito. This move has upset fans, and the Giants squad is frustrated with how management handles things. To add to the QB’s woes, there are now rumors going around that his time with the Giants might be running out. The buzz started after it was speculated that Jones has now been demoted to QB4. It certainly is a heavy blow to the QB, who signed a whopping $160 million deal with the Giants last year.
#Giants HC Brian Daboll said they haven’t decided whether Daniel Jones or Tim Boyle (signed to the practice squad on Tuesday) will be QB3 this week.
This means there’s a chance Daniel Jones could be demoted to QB4.

DeVito served as the starting QB during the 2023 season when Jones was sidelined with an ACL injury. While Jones has struggled this season after his injury, his teammates are not happy with the HC’s decision to bench him. One anonymous player even said that the management made the call because of money. Looks like some internal tensions are brewing within the team.

Dexter Lawrence, Jones’ best friend and the Giants’ nose tackle, said, “As a human and as a brother, I feel for him.” He also threw some shade at the management, saying you can’t know what’s going on in their heads. “He is the QB1. To me, the best QB on the team.” While Jones has strong support from his teammates, the management’s stance on his future with the Giants remains uncertain. The whole situation seems far from settled.
What’s next for Daniel Jones?
Daniel Jones’s future with the Giants seems to linger in the dark. It certainly wouldn’t be easy for him if they decided to drop him after a long six-year journey with them. This season and last have caused him a lot of trouble. In 2023, he was dealing with a neck injury in Week 5, followed by an ACL injury in Week 9. And this season, the back-to-back losses, plus all the management drama, have made things worse for him.

What’s your perspective on:
Is benching Daniel Jones the Giants' biggest blunder, or is it a necessary wake-up call?
Have an interesting take?
His stats also aren’t too impressive this season. In 10 games, he has thrown for 2,070 yards, with only 8 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. His completion rate lingers at 63.3%. But is it entirely Jones’ fault? Honestly, it’s the whole team that’s struggling. It’s not fair to place all the blame on the QB.
While Jones’ future with the Giants is uncertain, it’s quite clear they won’t be making it to the playoffs this season. However, fans are eager to see what they do with Jones. If they demote him, they need to do better. Because no way demoting your starting QB is the solution to your problems. And if they decide to replace him in 2025, well, that would cause a frenzy across the NFL world, and imagine the financial hit that the franchise is going to take.
