Last in the NFC East team. Sitting at 2-5, the New York Giants once again are not arguably appearing as a team that can enter the playoffs. So, now the obvious questions from fans are when the team is moving from some of its members like the coach or the quarterback.
Hence, while speaking in a recent appearance in “The Duke: Wellington Mara’s Giant Life” on Friday, the Giants’ President, John Mara, addressed the same question. He said, “Obviously we’re all very disappointed with where we are right now. But I’m gonna say one thing: we are not making any changes this season. And I do not anticipate making any changes in the offseason, either.”
According to ESPN NFL reporter Jordan Raanan, “During and after the season. He [Mara] talked about trying to be patient. (And therefore) They’re committed to seeing the process through.” This means, Mara isn’t in the mood to fire $5 million plus worth of coach, Brian Daboll, and GM Joe Schoen.

Now, it’s an interesting take from the president as last year, Daniel Jones signed $160 million for four years. But it has now resulted in a gambling loss for the team the coach and GM. He has failed as Giants quarterback since he got that deal. Jones was unable to lead the team into the playoffs. And now, in this season too, playing into the playoffs appears far from reality, until some magic happens.
Even the coach Daboll is not able to pull something up for the team. Of course, anything could happen in the upcoming 11 weeks. Despite that, it seems Mara is keeping patience with the team overall. As he already said, “We are not making any changes,” it’s clear. John Mara still has confidence in Daboll and Schoen. He will expect them to be back with the Giants in 2025.
Why is John Mara keeping patience with the team and their managers?
Back-to-back failures of Super Bowl dreams since 2013, John Mara is still keeping his patience with the team, coach, and general manager. But why? Well, it’s actually a trait in Mara that stemmed from his father. And it was recently revealed by the President. He talked about this while reflecting on his father’s legacy at the screening event of “The Duke: Wellington Mara’s Giant Life” (a documentary about his father, franchise patriarch Wellington Mara). During the event, John Mara said that despite the team’s struggles over the past decades, he is trying to follow his father’s advice to be patient.

Hence, he expressed that he has learned an important lesson from his father: “I think, to try to be more patient than maybe I’ve been in recent years. He preached that all the time. I’ve probably been guilty of not being patient enough in recent years and that’s one of the reasons I’m committed to Joe and Brian Daboll and giving them a chance to turn this around. It’s very difficult because the last 10 or 12 years have not been very good for fans. It makes it particularly difficult. But you got to do the right thing. We’re committed to doing that and seeing this process through.”
Hence, he believes that doing the right thing and staying the course, is his priority now.
