Breaking News: The New York Jets have found someone to clean up the mess left behind by the 2024 season. And let’s just say—this name could surprise a few there. Like, don’t you think who would be interested in moving to the Jets that hasn’t sniffed playoffs in the last 14 seasons? Well, there’s someone in Washington who is apparently close to being named as the Jets’ new GM. Yes, that’s right. The Jets are finally zeroing down on a target from the high-flying Commanders.

Washington’s Assistant General Manager Lance Newmark is supposedly the chosen one, according to senior NFL insider Josina Anderson. She has heard from league sources that Lance Newmark is already on his way to the Jets’ building. This could only mean one thing: Newmark must have left a lasting impression in his second interview with the Jets. Yeah, before Newmark, the Jets didn’t call any of their shortlisted candidates for a second go. They must have seen something in the former Detriot Lions executive.

Before joining the Commanders in 2024, Lance spent 26 years working in Motor City, where he held various roles, from director of player personnel to national scout. That experience, along with the Commanders’ instant change in fortunes after Lance Newmark’s arrival under Adam Peters, seems to have urged the Jets to select him. Now, you could be wondering, is hiring permissible from a team that is still in the playoffs? Well, Fox NFL insider Peter Schrager suggests it’s completely fine, “Unlike HC, a team can officially hire a GM even if the team is still in the playoffs.” It seems the New York Jets have a clear road to get their man from the Commanders without any hurdles.

But will it be the same happen for Newmark when he does land in New York? See, the Jets have the lowest salary cap space out of all 32 franchises in the NFL. Their $345,919 cap space could create lots of problems for Newmark in helping his head coach land future targets. Well, speaking of the head coach, a possible reunion could soon be happening in Florham Park. As per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Aaron Glenn could be the next head coach for the Gang Green.

The New York Jets close in on their primary targets

Just a few hours before the Lance Newmark news broke, the Jets had also scheduled another second interview with Lions DC Aaron Glenn. This time, it was Ian Rapoport who broke the news, stating, “A monumental day: Top target Aaron Glenn visits the Jets & the goal is to keep him from leaving the building.” Apart from the Jets trying to sign Glenn as the new man of Gang Green. There are certain particulars the Jets are still trying to sort out in hopes of officially announcing Aaron Glenn as the next head coach. And you know what? Rapoport wasn’t the only one stating that the Jets are closing in on Glenn.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Lance Newmark be the game-changer the Jets desperately need to turn their fortunes around?

Have an interesting take?

Even The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, on the latest episode of the Scoop City podcast, said Glenn is quite interested in landing the gig. This would truly be a huge boost for the Jets if they manage to wrap up both Newmark and Glenn’s contracts. Like this would be a no-brainer for the Jets, considering the pair were once together in Detriot. As ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted, “Newmark spent 26 seasons in Detriot before joining Washington last year. And is said to have a strong relationship with both Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn.”
