The Washington Commanders are making some major defensive moves! They recently brought in Bobby Wagner to bolster their lineup. Wagner has six All-Pro titles to his name and has inked a one-year deal with the Commanders. The contract is reported to be valued at up to $8.5 million, with a solid $6 million guarantee.

The new Commanders HC, Dan Quinn and Wagner share a storied history, having previously been part of the Seattle Seahawks, where they clinched a Super Bowl victory together. In a recent interview, Quinn expressed his enthusiasm for working with Wagner again.

Dan Quinn is over the moon to have Bobby Wagner in his squad

HC Dan Quinn had nothing but good things to say about the incoming LB. A reporter asked him about his previous statement, “Nothing warmed my heart more than Bobby Wagner coming here.” And Quinn went on to list not one or two, but five reasons why that’s the case. According to the HC, Wagner is “aggressive”, “he’s tough”, “he’s smart” and “he takes care of himself”.

And not just that, but he also acts as a “multiplier” for those on his team. And with the Draft coming up, many rookies will be joining the squad. There is nothing better for them than to get to work with a seasoned player like Wagner. “If you were a young linebacker being around somebody, this is the exact type of linebacker you’d want to be around.”

To say that Quinn is excited to have him would be an understatement. As he himself said, “That’s why I’m so lit up about getting him here.” And Wagner has similar feelings about joining Dan Quinn and Co.

Two familiar faces drew Wagner to the Commanders

Bobby Wagner’s decision to join the Washington Commanders wasn’t just a career move. It was a reunion that felt right to him. At the heart of this new chapter were the familiar faces of DQ and LB coach Ken Norton, both of whom have had a significant impact on Wagner’s career. “DQ and Norton were kinda the big things to come and do this,” Wagner reflected.

Quinn, who had previously orchestrated the Seahawks’ defense to Super Bowl heights, left a lasting impression on Wagner. “DQ does an amazing job of just putting all the players in the right positions and getting the best outta everybody,” Wagner praised. Norton, whom Wagner regards as one of his all-time favorite coaches, played a pivotal role in Wagner’s development from a promising rookie to one of the game’s greats. He had coached him for seven of his twelve seasons in the NFL.

Now, with years of experience under his belt, Wagner steps into the commanders’ defense, ready to make an impact. “I feel like I bring a leader, someone that you can depend on, a playmaker somebody that’s an extension of the coaches,” he stated.

If Wagner can channel the success of his early years under their guidance, the Commanders’ decision to bring this trio back together could very well be a masterstroke, setting the stage for a potential playoff run or even a Super Bowl journey.
