You miss 100% of the shots that you don’t take! Dan Campbell took one, and now, he knows what NOT-TO-DO when the game’s on the line. I mean, just think it this way, Lions QB Jared Goff threw for 5 TDs and he still did not have the last laugh… Enters Josh Allen with 2 TDs on the night and saying: “Thanks, Dan. I’ll have that.” But that’s a perk you can afford to have when you are riding high on a 12-1 like Detroit were before they added another L after losing to the Bills.
But that 11 Ws streak? Gone. Snap back to reality! However, the reality is still that the Lions are roaring. Despite being wounded, they managed to give a strong fight in the clash that lived up to its pregame fanfare (hm, potential SB game? Heck, yeah!). And Dan Campbell’s son, Piper, knows it.
After his dad’s moment, did not result in a dub, he took to his ‘gram and posted a Fam pic with a sulky caption, that read: “We’ll get em next time🥲” Oof. The whole Detroit feels you, Piper. But you can expect Allen and Co. to have the confidence outta this one, as well.

But there’s also a plus point that we can take from this game? Maybe, just maybe, Dan was saving the wild experiments for the season, not February. Trailing 38-28 with 12 minutes left, Campbell dialed up an onside kick. Risky move, right? Turns out, too risky.
Buffalo’s Mack Hollins scooped it up like it was a Thanksgiving turkey and took it to Detroit’s 3-yard line. One Josh Allen-to-Ray Davis touchdown later, it was 45-28 for Bills, and the Lions were left chasing shadows in a game that had already turned into a scoring bonanza.
Postgame, Campbell owned up to the call, admitting hindsight stings. “I thought we’d get the possession. I was confident in Jake [Bates], and it was one of his best kicks. But Hollins made a heck of a play. Looking back now, yeah, I wish I didn’t do it,” he said. Bold moves are what make Campbell Campbell! But this one? He might have missed the trick here…
But is Dan Campbell ‘wrong’ for experimenting?

JJ Watt didn’t waste a second ripping into Dan Campbell’s gutsy call. “I think I could wrestle a small bear; that doesn’t mean I should try it,” Watt joked on X. So, typical… And guess what? He had more in him. “Onside kicks have a 7% success rate. Trying one with 12 minutes left while only down by 10 was insane,” he added. Now, was Campbell’s call reckless? Fans seem to think so… that’s the major consensus. But was he?
Social media exploded like a busted coverage after Campbell’s decision. Fans, analysts, even your fantasy league group chat might have had opinions (do share some in the comments). It wasn’t just about the boldness of the call—it was how bad it turned out. I mean, yeah, it stretched Bills’ lead to 45-28. But hey, hindsight’s always 20/20, isn’t it?
So why’d Campbell roll the dice? Well, let’s call it like it is: Detroit’s defense was toast. Injuries piled up like penalty flags—Alim McNeill, Carlton Davis, David Montgomery, the list goes on. The Bills had 9 drives and scored on 7 of them. Seven! The Lions couldn’t stop a screen door that night, let alone Josh Allen. Campbell knew kicking it deep would just put the ball back in Allen’s hands. And if you’re stuck in a shootout, sometimes you go for broke.

Campbell has taken the fall… “I am to blame for this.” And while it didn’t work out, you can’t say the guy doesn’t try to win by any means necessary. Love it or hate it, Campbell’s style is about taking risks and trusting his gut. Sometimes it burns you; sometimes it’s the reason you’re in the fight at all. Read that again! Plus, it wasn’t the end of the world.
