Home/NFL

As the regular season is wrapped up, the teams are in a race from the next day onwards. No, we’re not talking about the postseason. There are still a few days left before some of the biggest showdowns. With Sunday’s games conclusion come the NFL Black Monday and as we’re already past that, Dan Campbell’s Lions have given out a green light to their offensive and defensive coordinators for head coach interviews.

Yeah, you’ve heard that right. The OC, Ben Johnson, and the DC, Aaron Glenn, are all in for stepping up for a new role in the NFL. I mean, it’s not been that long since Johnson cleared his intention to become an NFL head coach at some time. And considering he almost got an HC post with the Commanders or Seahawks last year, how can he miss out now? Because it appears that he may be the hottest name in the 2025 off-season.

On the flip side, how can we neglect Glenn? The DC is drawing plenty of interest for the vacant head coach post. With a strong resume against his name, he’s already been requested by the New York Jets for a HC interview. And not to mention the New Orleans Saints as well. Speaking of the latter, imagine if the Saints manage to hire him as a head coach. Voilà, the 52-year-old, will make a return, but this time not as a secondary coach.

However, the Lions have given them a window from Thursday afternoon through Saturday for the head coaching interviews. And as per the source, all those, by rule, have to be virtual. As a matter of fact, the countdown is on and this Saturday is gonna work as a deadline for both the Lions’ coaches.

Now the question remains which team is going to take their hands on these coaches? As for Dan Campbell and the Lions, things seem pretty clear that they could lose one of their coaches this coming off-season.

Dan Campbell and the Lions have a selective choice for Johnson

What’s your perspective on:

Will Ben Johnson's selective interviews lead to a new era for the Bears or Patriots?

Have an interesting take?

Though Aaron Glenn is fine, didn’t we hear earlier that Johnson will not interview every team that’s looking for a new head coach? Turns out, he’s not gonna do that after all. As per the reports, the Lions OC will be selective, and may only interview with the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots. Did the Jaguars fans say Ouch?

As per the recent reports, the Jacksonville team has put in a request for Johnson for their vacant HC post. Enter the offensive coordinator being selective to the Bears and Patriots, seems like there is no Jaguars interview for Johnson. We’ve got the Jaguars owner’s quote that may suit well with this scenario. “Right now, we are the most predictable team on both sides of the ball,” Shahid Khan said. “To win, deception is a big part of it. Unpredictability. It gives off the vibe that the Jaguars are unpredictable even before entering the gridiron next season.

All in all, if we put the Patriots aside for a while, Johnson is one of the most in-demand head coach candidates not just for the Bears but in the NFL. And why wouldn’t he? The Lions have clinched the number 1 seed in the NFC and pretty much all credit goes to Johnson. I mean, the Detroit team has recorded nearly 33 points in each game this regular season.

Now, that’s how you set a standard before heading towards a HC interview. And the way things are shaping up, either he’s going with the Bears or returning to Dan Campbell and the Lions.
