What does the combination of a bad putt, a lake, and Jimmy Fallon in your vicinity lead to? Well, if you’re lucky, like Travis Kelce, you’ll get that lake named after you. Because that’s precisely what happened during the 2022 8AM Invitational at Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas. Annually hosted by Justin Timberlake, the 2022 edition featured Kelce screaming at his putter, “I hate you!” That’s all it took for Fallon to wreak havoc, something he did this year, too!

“[Kelce] had a terrible putt,” reasoned Fallon after throwing the tight end’s club into the lake (which Travis willingly let happen). “I was going to take his ball and just toss it in the lake. He had his putter out and I go, ‘Let’s just cut out the middleman and get rid of that thing. You never have to worry about that ever again.’ The putter is six feet under.” What else is six feet under in 2024, courtesy of the late-night show host? Per Andrew Santino, a drone.

On a recent episode of the New Heights podcast, Santino and the Kelce brothers were talking about Vegas. In light of the third edition of Timberlake’s 8AM Invitational this past weekend, Travis couldn’t help but give the tournament a shout-out. After winning in 2022 alongside Patrick Mahomes and just losing out to the Timberlake-Fallon duo in 2023, the tight end was “p*ssed I couldn’t make it this year. Looking at all of the videos from the weekend, I knew I missed a good one.” That’s when the stand-up comedian revealed Jimmy Fallon’s antics this year.

Santino said, “Jimmy went off. He there a drone in the water. He threw one of the flags… I think he threw the fag in the 17th green in the water. And then he threw a drone in the water.” The mention of the 17th hole brought back memories from 2022 for Travis Kelce, who couldn’t help but ask, “You know that’s my lake? Lake Travis. That’s where he threw my putter.” Recalling that incident, the tight end reprimanded Fallon: “He’s got a f**king… Godd*mn it, Jimmy. Control yourself!” After all, that was the third time in three years the late-night show host there something into Lake Travis.

Even though Mahomes couldn’t make it to the 2023 Invitational, Kelce did. And he went prepared with a contingency plan to avoid a repeat of Fallon’s club-throwing shenanigans. The Chiefs star attached a spring to his club, which he tied to his wrist. So, when they approached Lake Travis, he knew his club was safe. Fallon even tried throwing the club but to no avail. However, just when Kelce thought he was in the clear, Fallon did the one thing no one expected. He threw the Lake Travis plaque into Lake Travis!

Although Jimmy Fallon didn’t have Travis Kelce’s clubs to cause chaos this year, he and Justin Timberlake found other ways. Well, apart from a drone being Jimmy’s star in the yearly sacrifice to Lake Travis. When in Vegas… try out a TikTok trend! That was the duo’s mantra. Along with Jessica Biel, Anthony Anderson, and Blake Griffin, they tried the ‘Elvis run and jump’ trend, but the world only got to see one-half of it. Why, “The second half of this video will have to stay in Vegas,” wrote Timberlake.

Earlier this year, in an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 8AM teammates recalled one of the best golf strokes Fallon has hit, the aftermath of which included Timberlake’s life flashing before his eyes. Because what happens when Fallon hits an unbelievable shot, and Travis Kelce is in the vicinity? Timberlake becomes collateral damage in the celebrations!

Justin Timberlake forgot about the weight difference between him and Travis Kelce

The shenanigans during the invitational tournament are not just restricted to Kelce losing his clubs at the hands of Jimmy Fallon in the now-renamed Lake Travis. The tight end almost hurt Justin Timberlake during a rather exciting moment in 2022 when Fallon made a bunker shot. Discussing this with Fallon, the 43-year-old singer revealed he forgot the weight difference between him and Travis Kelce.

Timberlake reminisced about the supposed chest bump, stating that Kelce “went up and did one of those, you know when they jump. And I was like, ‘He’s doing it. I have to do it.’ And I forgot that he weighs like 80 pounds more than me.” Although nothing happened to the star (other than falling right after), he recalled, “I saw my life flash before my eyes.”

Timberlake did admit to having a sore neck for the next few days, but it was nothing major, and the incident is now a fun memory. While fans have not gotten a chance to see the stars together in a while, Kelce might join in next year and add some new things to the growing collection of memorabilia at the bottom of Lake Travis.
