The Dallas Cowboys have ended the season on a disappointing note, but the topic has taken center stage when Super Bowl talks come on the floor. And in every debate of the Dallas Cowboys revokes around the franchise owner Jerry Jones. Recently, in a podcast, one insider and NFL reporter has exposed many things about the Jones and main reasons behind the Cowboys’ Super Bowl drought.

Jon Machota, a writer for the NY Times’ Athletic, appeared on The Rich Eisen Show. Firstly, on the question of what’s currently going on in Dallas, Machota said that both Jones and Deion Sanders are not the type of person who would like to end the speculations! After this question, an interviewer asked Machota, “What’s your analysis of why Jerry Jones dragged things out to the last second?”

John started, “The number one thing is, definitely, Jerry Jones likes the Cowboys always being talked about,” and Machota directly grabbed the roots. The Dallas reporter hinted at the Cowboys’ primary problem when he added a further point. On that note, Machota said, “Jerry Jones loves to say he has a high tolerance for ambiguity, which he said many times even after last Sunday’s loss to Washington.”

Machota continued, “That doesn’t mean everybody feels the same way. It certainly wasn’t best for CeeDeeLamb that contract extension to be dragged and him not being in the training camp. The way they (the Cowboys) do anything in free agency kinda and drag it out like that they’re gonna find some bargains during camps and right before the season.” Then added, “The thinking is just not a lineup with the top winning organizations in the sport.”

Well, after dragging issues like Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, Jerry Jones has come up with an old topic with a new twist. During the past 2 to 3 months, Jerry Jones has never given a clear statement on head coach Mike McCarthy‘s tenure extension. But McCarthy’s contract has now ended on an ugly note where talk about the new HC is already making headlines.

Mike McCarthy turned down a meeting at the negotiation table with Jerry Jones

According to reports and also NFL reporter Jane Slater, on Tuesday, “I think the plan there was to make him an heir apparent of sorts. Mike McCarthy sort of surprised him by deciding he wanted to end these conversations, pursue something else.” The national reporter was talking about the ongoing debate over Mike McCarthy’s departure from Dallas. It is also said that after McCarthy rejected tenure extensions or negotiations. And amid this, the former Cowboys star and current college football coach Deion Sanders also had a close talk with the Cowboys owner about the HC job.

But first things first, Mike McCarthy’s departure was not a surprise. Experts already knew that the Dallas Cowboys owner might not extend HC’s tenure, but he didn’t. In his five-year tenure, McCarthy did not leave Dallas, after helping the Cowboys reach a wild card round for the past three years (2021,22 and 23) and also one divisional round in the 2022 season.

McCarthy’s 2024 season for the Cowboys has been, clearly, a curse one. Many star players’ injuries, like Micah Parsons, and Dak Prescott trickled down the losing streaks. In fact, for Prescott’s injury, Jones would have to pay a heavy price. In such situations, there was a narrow way for the head coach to help march the team in a great spirit. And how does it result? The five-time Super Bowl champion Cowboys ended the season with a 7-10 victory record. And the season also ended for McCarthy.

Well, Mike McCarthy, though, packing up his stuff to move out of Dallas, but he is not going anywhere from the league. In fact, the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints are already showing an interest in the Super Bowl-winning HC.
