The NFL offseason drama is in full swing and the main character of this blockbuster? Free agency. With the market officially opening, teams are scrambling to lock in top talent and land the real deal. But while the frenzy unfolds across the league, there’s a different kind of storyline brewing in Dallas. But amid this, the Cowboys are still holding off on a contract extension for their star linebacker, Micah Parsons.

Earlier reports hinted that team owner Jerry Jones was ready to break the bank and make Parsons the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league. But now? The situation isn’t as clear-cut as many expected it to be.

For those assuming Parsons’ extension is a done deal—reflect again. According to NFL insider Jane Slater, there’s no agreement in place, and meaningful negotiations haven’t even started. So there’s no point in taking your party hats out as this deal continues to brew.

Slater reported, “While there is chatter on Twitter about Micah Parsons and a contract extension being finalized, I checked. Not only is it NOT done, but what would be characterized as meaningful talks haven’t even begun yet, per two sources informed.” And wait for it. The Dallas reporter provided concrete clarifications regarding the issue in the following tweets.

The reporter also added, I have no reason to believe it won’t be done or can’t be done soon just telling you I now have 3 sources telling me the deal isn’t done and 2 telling me they wouldn’t characterize the talks as meaningful enough right now to put pen to paper. Reading between the lines? Communication has begun but they aren’t there yet.”

Ohh! It looks like the linebacker will get a deal, but no one can tell when!

Parsons is in the last year of his rookie contract signed in 2021. The deal was pretty good: $17,079,793. According to the current contract values, the LB will earn a base salary of $24,007,000 as it’s the fifth year of the contract. Although the initial agreement was for four years, Micah received a fifth-year option as per regulations.

However, the extension awaits, as it’s the last year of his contract. According to the ‘Dallas Morning News’ reporter Calvin Watkins, some conditions are kept in place to retain the pass rusher.

According to the reporter, the Cowboys kept it in their plans for a significant extension. But there is a question about Micah Parsons’ dedication to regular workouts and the leader’s qualities. Now, that’s a catch!

“Last week, another teammate publicly questioned his dedication to the team. Former head coach Mike McCarthy last year expressed disappointment at Parsons’ absence from voluntary team workouts,” the Dallas Morning News reported March 18, 2025. So, if that’s an issue, Micah has to put his heart on the line to sign a thick contract. But let’s see what happens shortly.

Meanwhile, Micah Parsons’ contract extension looming on the table, reports that Dak Prescott wanted to bring Cooper Kupp to Dallas. Yeah, you read that right!

Dak Prescott wanted Cooper Kupp in the squad BUT…

Since free agency started, Mike Macdonald‘s Seattle Seahawks wasted no time in signing former Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp. They put ink to paper for a three-year deal worth a staggering $45,000,000. According to many reports, the arrangement looks fair as Cooper is from Washington State. But while this deal was going on, per Adam Schefter, Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb wanted Kupp on their team.

Schefter wrote, “Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, who I understand it, were on the phone with Cooper Kupp talking to him about the idea of coming to Dallas, and it was floated out there. And then the Cowboys heard the numbers, and they were at numbers that the Cowboys weren’t going to get to.”

The Cowboys are actually suffering from a cap hit. They have a current cap space of $40,503,304 and we all know what deal Cooper Kupp signed. So Jerry Jones’s reaction to Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb‘s recruitment was obvious.

And who knows, maybe the Dallas Cowboys are saving a space for Micah Parsons! Maybe Cooper was out of the Cowboys’ price range, but if they want to retain Micah Parsons, Jerry Jones‘s team should pull up. Let’s see how the Cowboys will get this done!
