Tom Pelissero, an NFL Insider, took to X to share that McCarthy experienced pain in his stomach in the morning. After a thorough examination, he was diagnosed with acute appendicitis. “He is currently slated for surgery this afternoon, expected to be released later today.” Since appendicitis surgery is a minor one and is very safe, he will likely be back on Sunday.

During McCarthy’s absence, coordinators Brian Schottenheimer, John Fassel, and Dan Quinn will take over the reins of the team and guide them during their practice sessions in the run-up to Sunday Night Football. Since he is the offensive play-caller this season, his absence will hamper the practice sessions. Tthe team will not be prepared for what calls they will be subjected to on Sunday.
