Micah Parsons recently emerged as one of the top players from Penn State. He received his third straight Pro Bowl and earned second-team All-Pro honors. However, as per the reports, there are concerns that he may not be fitting in well with his team, the Dallas Cowboys.

Jerry Jones’ team is facing Dak Prescott’s contract issue, but still the low cap space ($6,743,989) and players’ demands, including Parsons’ being the highest-paid player at his position, have definitely raised concerns for the team’s cap space and their future. As per the reports, there are rumors that the Cowboys are considering a different approach with him.

Instead of signing Parsons as a linebacker, they might utilize him as a defensive end, due to cost-saving reasons. But, if these “leverage” tactics’ rumors are to be true, is the franchise on the right path? Recently, it was alleged that Micah Parsons’ behavior in the locker room has not been positive and he’s perceived as “selfish.” Furthermore, rumors say that Dallas is waiting until the last minute to extend the contract to Parsons, as there is a possibility of him asking for an extension, and probably the highest salary at his position in the NFL.

This situation seems to follow a pattern of what Dez Bryant described as “smear campaigns” against the Cowboys stars due for a raise. He expressed, “Yea he ain’t getting the bag without a smear and that’s messed up… he got kids who will grow up later on in life and nobody care to think about that.”

As per the reports, this trend is seen as a tactic to gain leverage in contract negotiations. In the past, the Cowboys have reportedly used similar tactics with players like Dez Bryant and Dak Prescott. Now as per Bryant, they are allegedly doing the same with Parsons. Despite the typical approach of teams to re-sign top players, the Cowboys seem to be delaying Parsons’ contract negotiations, possibly to gain leverage, as he might tone down his demands.

Now, it remains to be seen what’s next in store for Parsons and others with the Cowboys. Whatever happens, this strategy risks demanding their relationship with their best player and reflects poorly on the organization’s functioning, as expressed by some NFL analysts, including Chris Broussard.

Can the Cowboys regret their delay tactics?

In the latest episode of First Things First, Nick Wright, Chris Broussard, and Kevin Wildes discussed if Micah Parsons, who is said to be “wearing thin” these days, is a part of the problem in Dallas. The rest of the hosts agreed with Broussard’s statement that “Micah is not a part of the problem, he is the solution.” The analyst further mentioned concern about Parsons’ outspokenness and how it might not be the best for the team’s dynamics, especially considering he’s still young and building his career.

However, they acknowledged that Micah doesn’t have any character issues or off-field problems. Broussard said, “I don’t think a young guy who hasn’t won, yet who’s still building it’s not like he’s Draymond Green who’s won rings and played his best, even Paul George, who hadn’t won but he’s a veteran at least. So I don’t think that’s great but Micah, what is other than that there’s no problem, he doesn’t have any character issues, he’s not in the police blot and things like that.” The analysts suggested that the teams have a large staff of coaches and support personnel precisely for this reason – to help valuable players like Parsons and ensure that they can flourish both on and off the field.

Parsons has gained recognition as one of the NFL’s top defensive players since he joined the league in 2021. In only 50 games, he has achieved remarkable stats: 40.5 sacks, eight pass defenses, seven forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries. These numbers demonstrate his exceptional performance on the field. Probably, that’s why he has been referred to as the “solution” for the team.
