Some things happen in life that change your life’s direction. It happened with Dak Prescott in 2013 when his mother died because of colorectal cancer. The QB was in Mississippi State then, and couldn’t do much to save her life. Now, it’s a different story. He is an NFL superstar, the first to have a $60 million yearly salary. And he is using his money for the right cause.
Dak is saving lives through his ‘Faith Fight Finish Foundation‘, which he started in 2017-18 in his mother’s memory. Tad Harper, Senior VP of Communications at the Jerry Jones team, sat down with Prescott and revealed his testimony. Harper said, “That test that you arranged in the training camp came back positive for me. And you know, I’m going to work through this process. Thank you because you are going to end up saving my life.” That’s humbling and has an inspiring story behind it.

Just a few months back, HC Mike McCarthy donated a huge amount to Dak Prescott’s Foundation. And in the offseason this year, Prescott decided to get the coaches and staff checked out in partnership with Baylor Scott & White Health. Harper was also among those. Around 2 and a half weeks after the test, the Senior VP received a call that there were some signs.
The VP expressed his relief to Dak Prescott for the early detection. The QB was also shocked when he heard the news the first time and his feelings were, “Blown away to an extent. Disbelief you can say. But at the same time just incredibly humbled that I played a small part or the part that I played in my foundation being able to provide those tests.” That’s the grateful part of being a superstar. He is trying to make a positive change in the community.
The relief on their faces after early detection was surreal. In the video, Harper could not stop himself from thanking Prescott again and again in the video and added, “It’s beyond football. It’s beyond the Dallas Cowboys. It’s an intense kind of appreciation.” The QB was also filled with gratitude for being able to do this.
The Cowboys’ senior VP also revealed the reason behind coming forward with his story that was, “I was lucky and blessed and I’m trying to pay it forward by sharing that story and hopefully motivating others to get checked out.” That’s the main part of the story. And it’s the most important one. He then unveiled the custom Nike cleats under the ‘My Cleats, My Cause‘ program.
The cleats are unreal. They look white normally, but when he put light on them, it showed the special messages written on them. It contains an eyeball with the message, ‘see the unseen.’ In the front, it has ‘find it fight it.’ Around that Nike symbol, it has ‘early detection.’ That’s a really cool style to spread the message and pay homage to his mother. His commitment is also praiseworthy.
To this day, the quarterback has maintained that his mother has always been his moral compass. And he keeps his dear ones close.
Dak Prescott and his family celebrated a childhood buddy’s birthday
Those who have followed the quarterback from his early days must be familiar with Jeremy Hicks. A childhood friend, used to play defensive end with the quarterback during school. Whenever he missed any tackle, Dak’s mother, Peggy Prescott, would call him and scold him, asking him to play with passion and also telling her son the same.

Years later, their friendship is as strong as ever. Dak Prescott posted 2 IG stories, wishing his friend on his birthday. In one story, he wrote, “Happy Birthday Uncle Jeremy!! We love you.” Another one mentioned, “Late but know I always got you. I hope you enjoyed your day!” That’s really sweet.

Hicks was with him in April 2015 when he was attacked during his spring break, leaving with a bloody eye that required 5 stitches and a chipped tooth. That happened at a concert in Florida where Prescott went with the Mississippi State team. After almost a decade, Dak hasn’t forgotten his bestie. The love is great between the two. It’s what makes the Cowboys QB so special.
