One of the tough things to do in the NFL must be to re-live the nostalgia. But Dak Prescott appears to be fortunate enough to experience that nostalgia all over again as Ezekiel Elliott makes his entry into the Dallas Cowboys once again. In a recent presser, Jerry Jones mentioned how Ezekiel Elliott got a renewed contract which ended up taking from Tyron Smith.
This time, the Cowboys did address their long-impending RB problem with a familiar solution, without possibly hurting anyone else’s pocket. Yet, Elliott’s return to the Cowboys sparked questions in Emmanuel Acho’s mind and he had to clear his doubts on his show, SPEAK.

Acho trying to make sense of how Ezekiel Elliott fits into the Cowboys
Emmanuel’s simple question sparked a debate that would go on for minutes. The former Eagles’ linebacker asked, “So, does a reunion [of Cowboys and Elliott] make sense?” to Dave Helman, an NFL analyst. For the most part, Helman thinks that Elliott returning to the Cowboys made sense, but it came with a condition.

Helman thinks that the Cowboys need to be honest with themselves and the fans about their expectations of Zeke. “Signing a running back to a $2 million $3 million contract to come in and play a role because you didn’t draft one over the weekend,” said Helman as he pointed out the fault with Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ scheme of doing things.
“This is what Zeke is at this point. I think he’s a veteran presence, he’s a guy that a not a lot of guys in the locker room know and love. He can be your short-yardage back, your goal line back, and that’s probably about it at this stage of his career,” added the host to Zeke’s addition to the Dallas team. At this point, Prescott can really do with an RB because that position hasn’t yielded any fruitful results in the last season.
Apart from Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn, the Cowboys only have two vets in the team that may turn out to be a huge help for Dak and difference makers for the team- Elliott and Royce Freeman. However, with things looking to settle down slightly, Helman pointed out a few matters about Ezekiel Elliott that might not end up favoring the Dallas team.

Ezekiel Elliott’s questionable potential in the Cowboys team
At this point Elliott’s utility to the Cowboys does not simply have a yes as an answer. Helman pointed out how “last year, 49 backs got the ball 100 or more times in the NFL. Zeke ranked tied for 45 in the number of 10-plus yard carries. He had eight. He had 8 carries of 10-plus yards last year, tied for fourth worst in the NFL.”

Helman later went on to say that if the Cowboys are not expecting the 2018 Zeke Elliott, then everything should be fine. One thing that’s advantageous about the cascade is the fact that Elliott knows how the Cowboys offense works and knows the people who play on the team, hence it will take less time for him to settle there.

The downside is that the Cowboys might decide to trade him away after the season, just like they did the last time, hence troubling the stability of the side even more.
