Can Dak Prescott's determination silence the doubters about his injury history?

Dak Prescott is making waves in the media again. Is it about his contract extension? No, it’s far worse than that. America’s team’s quarterback was spotted in Mexico. What’s so bad about being spotted on vacation? Well, it’s not so much about his vacation as it is about his previously fractured right leg. He was spotted wearing a walking boot.

Forget Aaron Rodgers for a second. A new villain has entered the scene. Prescott wearing a walking boot has caused a lot of drama in the media spaces. How can the hosts of SPEAK stay away from this conversation? Moreover, how can we miss Shady’s crass but hilarious remarks about Dak’s situation? But it’s not about LeSean McCoy, it’s Emmanuel Acho’s comments that bring up the ghosts of Prescott’s past.

“What are the optics? When you are in a managerial position, it’s not about just what you do. It’s about what does it look like you’re doing. And for me, you’re the quarterback of America’s team,” Acho mentioned on SPEAK. It’s true. Dak Prescott’s contract has an added responsibility of taking care of the team’s optics too. Dallas Cowboys fans haven’t been a happy bunch for a long time. Prescott walking around like this might add to their plight some more.

The Host further added, “Why are you seen in public, in a walking boot, knowing you fractured that leg four years ago? Knowing that people will start to look into it. Is he healthy? Is he not healthy? Why is he in a boot? He must have got an MRI. If you got an MRI what are you trying to protect? You don’t just walk around in walking boots for no reason, America.”

Dislocated & fractured ankle isn’t really anyone’s cup of tea. But Prescott was hip dropped and broke his ankle and fractured some bones in the game against the New York Giants. That happened in week 5 of the 2020 season. Since then, he’s never been the same. He used to run the ball a lot before his 2020 season, but after that, it just stopped. Before the injury laden 2020 season, Prescott had 1,221 rushing yards in 4 seasons (2016-2019).

However, everything changed after the fracture, and he saw a 46% decline in his rushing yards over the next 4 years. Prescott had 663 rush yards combined for the last 4 seasons. So, you see the difference here. Only after Prescott got a fractured leg was he able to get the 4-year $160 million contract extension. Is it going to happen again? His injury woes don’t seem to end because the QB had a hand thumb fracture in 2022 and had a plate installed in his thumb to stabilize the joint.

So do the Cowboys believe him enough to give him a contract extension? Whether Prescott gets a contract extension, he did clear that he’s not playing for money. He just wants to play football. But he also came out and addressed the walking boot, saying that it’s not a big deal. He played 5 games in the 2020 season and missed out the rest of it. Will he be missing out on this season too? Highly unlikely.

What’s the deal with Dak Prescott’s walking boot?

It’s nothing to be worried about because everyone’s going on a frenzy for no reason. It Just makes up for good stories. But Prescott did address this injury in a text with Clarence Hill of Fort Worth Star-Telegram, saying, “I’m great,” and that “the last time I went deep sea fishing my (ankle) swole up.” Prescott has been dealing the injuries in the same foot for a long time now. It’s been 4 years since that injury and all Prescott can say at this time is, “the same ankle, same issues.”

Juan Carlos Vázquez first broke the news on X when he wrote, “Dak Prescott estuvo este fin de semana en Los Cabos. En la alberca caminó normal peeeeeeero esta foto de@QuarterbackElmuestra que tiene una lesión en el tobillo derecho! #NFL.” The post said that Prescott walked normally, but with a walking boot.

A Cowboys insider told the media that it’s nothing but some soreness and that “people be reaching man.” Are people really “reaching?” Because there are some others who say that Prescott has a sprained foot and that’s why he needs the boots. Ian Rapoport revealed more on X.

QB Dak Prescott, spotted here in a protective walking boot, is dealing with a very minor foot sprain and has been for a few days. It’s not considered to be anything that should affect his preparation for 2024,” wrote Rapoport on the social media platform. There are no indications of any major problems.

If Dak Prescott is out and about in Mexico wearing a walking boot, it means he can take care of himself. If he was seriously injured, he wouldn’t have crossed the border to soak the views of Los Cabos. Maybe everyone is “reaching.”
