Dak Prescott had recently stepped into a role far more significant than any he’s assumed on the field: fatherhood. Prescott shared that his life took a profound turn with the arrival of his first child. On February 29th, he and his girlfriend, Sarah Jane Ramos, were blessed with a baby girl they named Mary Jane Rose.

The news of Ramos’s pregnancy first came to light in November when she shared the joyous update on social media. Shortly thereafter, Dak, with a hint of humor, mentioned how “dad strength” might just be the secret sauce to his performance in the 2023 season. Now, a month into this new chapter, Prescott wants to celebrate MJ.

The Cowboys QB took to Instagram to share this special moment with his followers. His wife, @sarahjane, had shared a collage of her and Dak with their daughter. It was captioned, “One month with the love of our lives @_dak”. In turn, Dak had captioned the re-shared story, “One month down… 4EVA To GO ❤️.”

“You know, you wake up in the morning and see that baby, and you understand the responsibilities,” Dak had told CBS News around the time his baby was born. “Everything that I’ve always wanted for myself, but to want that for someone else even more. Yeah, it’s special.”

But now during the offseason, the new father has other concerns as well. It seems he may not be in Dallas come 2025.

Cowboys okay with letting Prescott hit the market in 2025

In a strategic move that’s stirring up the NFL waters, the Cowboys appear not very eager to retain Dak Prescott beyond 2024. As they head into the final stretch of Prescott’s contract, carrying a hefty cap hit of $55.455 million, the Cowboys are faced with a pivotal decision: extend his tenure now or let the chips fall where they may in 2025.

Dak had tremendous leverage if the Cowboys felt compelled to sign him to an extension. If they’ve decided to let things play out and take their chances in 2025, it gives him less power to squeeze from them a market-value deal. This calculated stance by the Cowboys suggests a wait-and-see approach. They seem to be leaning on the free agency market to set Prescott’s value, influenced by the offers that might come his way from other teams.

With more than $50 million counting against them next year should Prescott depart, an early re-signing could mitigate the financial aftermath. Yet, the Cowboys seem unwavering by the immediate financial implications or the prospect of Prescott donning a different jersey come next March.

At that crossroads, Prescott will also face a critical decision. Whether to accept the Cowboys’ offer or embark on a new chapter with a team. They might possibly offer more financially, but might not match the Cowboys’ national profile.
