The Cowboys are weighing Dak Prescott’s potential in his playoff success. Prescott led the regular season in passing touchdowns, but playoff wins are still elusive to him. Maybe the postseason curse is true. But if not Prescott, who else is going to take his place? The Cowboys cannot give Cooper Rush and Trey Lance the place, given their track record.
An agitated Dallas Cowboys fan gladly offered to drive the QB to any other team that would have him. That playoff narrative is getting old, for which Dak Prescott is being compared to LeBron James of the Lakers. Given that the Lakers are stuck with him because there’s no one else to hold the torch. This is the argument John Middlekauff made when a fan conveyed his feelings about the Dallas QB.
“It’s like we just win, you know, 12 games a year, then all of a sudden, we’re in the playoffs, and we’re just done. Who is going to be your quarterback?” said the host and added, “That’s where Jerry is in this weird spot and it’s also where Dak does have, it’s crazy to say, still has some leverage.”

“It’s part of the reason the Lakers are going to sign LeBron James. They are not winning a championship; they got no chance. But he does keep them relevant, he does keep them in the playoff mix, and Dak does keep you in the playoff mix,” added the host.
Though the lakers won their last championship in 2020, since then both LeBron James and Lakers have not made much of a difference in playoffs. Since then, their post season performance has been less than satisfactory, with not going beyond the second round of playoffs. This year, the Denver Nuggets eliminated the Lakers in the first round of playoffs. For Cowboys, Dak has’t won that many games in playoffs. Even if they decide to move on from him, there are other forces at play.
The problem here is that the Cowboys won’t get their hands on a top 10 QB, because there is little to no chance that they will have a top 10 pick next year. To add to their problems, Mike McCarthy, Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons, all are at the end of their contracts. As per Statmuse, Dak Prescott is 2-5 in the playoffs since 2017. But there’s one more problem, and that has to do with his salary cap.
Dak Prescott makes it difficult for Jerry Jones to manage the Cowboys

In March 2021, Prescott signed a 4-year $160 million extension. His cap hit keeps on increasing as the years go by. This year, Prescott carries a cap hit of $55.45 million. These numbers are getting hard to manage for the Dallas Cowboys, considering that they have other players to cater to as well.
Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb are in line for a better contract. Unfortunately, due to Prescott’s considerable cap tis difficult to match the market price for them. To add to that Jerry Jones is a populat penny pincher. Moreover, the Cowboys signed 8 players in the 2024 draft and none of them seem fit to fill the big shoes of CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons. All the Cowboys did in the draft was invest in their O-Line and get some edge rushers.

The Prescott-Lamb combo is a real powerhouse. Lamb broke Michael Irvin’s single-season franchise records for catches and receiving yards that Irvin set in 1995.The only way forward for all the parties is if Dak takes a cut in his pay. He has already stated he will do anything that the team wants and he is not here for the money, but for the love of the game.
Only this season’s result will help the fanbase and the Cowboys understand where they stand and what they need to do. Fingers crossed.
